After starting off life as a 3-piece band named ‘Insult 2 Injury’, they have seen members come and go and come along way in the 2 years they’ve been together. They released their first 3 track EP – ‘Away From Home but Not Alone’ in January of 2005, only a month after now singer, Sam Dunn joined the band. Tracks taken from this EP have been played on both of Peterborough’s main radio stations – Hereward and Lite FM.
The band have built up a reputation of having a style of their own – each member being influenced by different styles, sounds and aspects of music. With their stage presence and hunger to play in front of audiences, Dekadence are going to be a band to watch out for.
Dekadence started in no unfamiliar way with, three school friends - Daniel Eve, Andrew Martin and Luke Noll – starting a three piece rock line-up going under the name ‘Insult 2 Injury’; who where soon after joined by another school friend Lee Miller on a second guitar.
Lee didn’t stay with the band long and was replaced with current guitarist Andrew “Titch” Simmons, after his experience in playing in several fairly successful local bands, and proved to be a strong addition to the Dekadence line-up, with a great knowledge of music and it’s construction as well as the ability to ad-lib.
Up to this point Dan had been the main vocalist in the band, but he wanted to stand back and let someone else take this position. The band then recruited in the first member of Dekadence to be a non-attendee of The Deepings School, a female vocalist named Lyndsey.
Soon after Lyndsey began singing with Dekadence they lost another member – Luke. At this point the band recruited in Jon Falkingham, whose entrance to the band was also followed swiftly with loosing singer, Lyndsey.
The band was beginning to take shape; and with the idea of recording in mind, they wanted to find a new singer that would really grab the role of singer and nail it on the head. This role was nailed through the wood with Sam joining the band. He has a dramatic, and somewhat camp presence. Sam took to the role with extreme ease; with a huge range of vocal abilities and a love for performance and theatre.
After just over a month of Sam being part of Dekadence they went into the studio to produce their first 3 track EP – ‘Away From Home but Not Alone’. This sublime and relaxed CD takes you through a valley of ups and downs and is a prime example of the creative out-puts of Dekadence.
After the best part of 2 years, Dekadence parted ways with long time drummer Andrew Martin and brought in Peter Marks, a former member of 40 Second Flaw and Random Acts of Tomfoolery alongside Dan and Andrew.
Through 9 members and many gigs’s the band continue to write and play new material that will appear on their up coming CD – ‘Retrosexuals’. 'Retrosexuals' promises more magic from the band that is Dekadence.
