Originally from South West London, Dekoy first got into DJ’ing in 1997 at the tender age of 13 growing up to the sounds of London pirate radio. In 2003 he moved to Bristol and soon got involved in the local scene there supporting such DJ’s as Andy C, Ed Rush, Randall and Bad Company.
In 2005 Dekoy entered the world of promoting and launched his Rusty Needle event. The night was based on mixing the old skool sounds of hardcore and jungle with the new skool sounds of hardcore breaks. As the events continued, more emphasis began to be placed on pushing forward new sounds and styles, however, and the old skool was dropped. With hardcore breaks/Nu Rave as a backbone to the night, it now fuses styles with the bass heavy, dancefloor sound of dubstep and bass-music in all its shapes and forms.
Rusty Needle has continued to grow and is approaching its 10th event, always breaking down the boundaries of providing a true 21st century rave. The night is a family affair with good friends Spree (Penguin Dance), Mulder (Urban Takeover/2 Fresh), Ruttler (Housewives), Malfunktion (Mert Wax) & MC Ram all now forming the residency base (who perform together as the Rusty Needle Bashmenteers). As well as in the clubs, the crew can heard on the airwaves each and every Monday evening on number 1 Bristol pirate Passion FM as well holding regular guest slots on Nu Rave.com radio (www.nu-rave.com).
Production-wise Dekoy first entered the studio in 2005 when he got hold of a computer and a copy of Cubase. A year later he was lining up his first release “Give in to Love” - a hybrid of euphoric pianos and sing-a-long vocals with hard, distorted bass lines - for well respected hardcore breaks label Mert Wax. The tune received heavy dubplate exposure and went on to become one of the anthems of the year.
Now with the imminent launch of his own label One Three Recordings (OTR), new tunes are ready to be dropped again. The first release holds another vocal anthem in the form of the trance heavy “Catch 22” backed with the more progressive, energy rush of “Acropolis”. The proposed remit for OTR is to push progressive breakbeat-based rave music. Watch out for more releases coming out of the stable in the very near future.
Robin is resident at Dance Energy (London), Penguin Dance and Rusty Needle and has also performed at Overload, Jungle FX, Unification (Leeds) Byte, Break!!!, Ascendance (London), Dirty Knees (Cardiff), Instrumental (Brighton), Ricochet, Oblivion (Lodz, Poland), Logic Sense (Cornwall), Asbo Disco, Fraktured, Turbulence, Phixation, Rave On supporting artists such as Andy C, Ed Rush, Randall, Remarc, Clipz, Malice & Enzyme, Distortionz, DJ Sy, Slipmatt, Kenny Ken, Rusko, Ed209, Quiet Storm, Dub Child, Caspa, Tayo, Joker, Aquasky, Rossi B, Jay Cunning, Vinyl Junkie, Krome & Time, Tango and Ratty, Lennie De Ice, DJ Derek plus many more.
