In 1999, Dektos first became a group consisting of four members in a guitar class in high school. For a required recital, they decided to dress up like the Mamas and the Papas and cover the song, "Turn Turn Turn."
The next year, they became a three piece band with two girls in the front. The year progressed and the girls decided to make Dektos an all-girl band (the drummer had two other band projects he was working on at the same time).
There were three drummers that came and went before Dektos would play their first real show. Now it was Tobie, Talia, and Shannon. The group played a few shows and then Tobie wanted to pursue her own projects and didn't want to be confined to a drum set.
Talia and Shannon found Tiffany at a show and her first performance with Dektos was only one week later. She was amazing and caught on really fast.
Talia left the group shortly after the beginning of 2004.
Dektos' new bass player was easy to find. She was already practically in the band, whether running merch, loading equipment, coming to practice, or playing cowbell or tamborine. Little Billie was a great asset to Dektos and the band chemistry is the best it's ever been.
Currently, Tiffany has moved to Pennsylvania to advance her education. Billie and Shannon have decided that maybe they'll change their sounds a bit. Acoustic anyone? But that won't make them boring! Be prepared to see some shows in the near future!
Dektos isn't necessarily confined into a specific genre. They have ranged from ska, rockabilly, blues, jazz, old school punk, emo, and pop punk. It's whatever they feel like writing at the time. They have also covered some unique songs. These include, "Metropolitan Mattress" which is a TV jingle in the Metro-Phoenix area, "Butterfly" which is a techno song from Dance Dance Revolution, "Wolverine" by Blaster the Rocket Boy, and "The Apple Song, " by Calibretto 13.
Most importantly, Dektos is a ministry. They use their music and their lives to make an impact in people's lives. They believe Jesus died for the sins of the world so that everyone could be reunited with God and that everyone could have that opportunity if they put their faith in Him and believe.
