With a name like Deleted Waveform Gatherings, you might think you were in for some '90s-style downtempo electronica, but this Norwegian band's moniker is a bit ...of a red herring. In fact, they turn out heavily '60s-indebted garage pop, but with a modern touch rather than a retro fixation, so they wind up closer to, say, Brian Jonestown Massacre than The Black Hollies. Head Waveform Oyvind Holm comes by his roots honestly in any case, having formerly fronted '90s psych-poppers Dipsomaniacs. DWG actually evolved out of the band he assembled for his post-Dipso solo project, but by this point, with third album Ghost, She Said, they've handily taken on a life of their own. If you fear the monochromatic tone palette employed by too many Nuggets-loving bands, don't be scared of this Ghost — there are plenty of varied instrumental touches amid the din of dirty fuzztones, from deftly picked acoustic guitar patterns to layered keyboards and even the occasional banjo riff. Most importantly, Holm's songcraft is unfailingly solid whether he's reveling in a rave-up or sitting down for a psych-dripping ballad.
