Deleyaman is comprised of Aret Madilian, Beatrice Valantin, Gerard Madilian and Mia Bjorlingsson. The band was formed in Normandy, France in 2000 by Aret Madilian, the American member of the band born in Istanbul, who grew up in Los Angeles and who now resides in France. A former member of a band from the L.A. post-punk scene whose debut album was recorded and produced by Spot, the engineer behind the influential punk label SST records (Black Flag, Minutemen, Hüsker Dü, Sonic Youth). The three other band members of Deleyaman are also of different nationalities - French, Swedish and Armenian. The band has released four studio albums to date while performing live since 2002. In 2007 Deleyaman traveled to a post-Soviet Armenia performing in rural villages across the country including a concert in the war stricken region of Karabagh. The band's latest concert performance was in Los Angeles. A concert which was a part of a seven date California tour in 2008.
Deleyaman's music is difficult to pigeon hole. It has been described as darkwave, ethereal, gothic, alternative, world or folk while their work has been compared to some notable artists or bands that have come before. Though the band understands the inevitable need for classifications and comparisons, they believe this to be a rather subjective process and prefer not to categorize their music into a single genre.
The entire deleyaman discography is currently being uploaded onto a BANDCAMP page where you will now be able to download ANY track in ANY format - mp3 (320k, VBR), Ogg Vorbis, Apple Losless, FLAC and AAC (aka .m4a or iTunes store format). Here is the link.
