Some people live to write. I write to live. Writing to me is freedom. Writing is power. Writing is healing. Writing is wisdom. I write to express my intellect and all that I have experienced in my eighteen years of life. My words are my heart.
Music is my soul. I learned to play guitar a year ago to bring together my heart and soul. It is through writing and singing that I am able to connect with those around me on a deeper level that doesn’t require talking, only listening to the music I create. It is my burning desire to reach out to others through my songs, my lyrics, to heal them with the same words that have healed me.
I have found a sense of completion having united heart and soul in early January of 2007. Since then I have developed into a performing artist—a young singer/songwriter. I have played sold out shows at the local coffee houses, restaurants, and bars. Being on stage fills me with excitement as I am able to look out at an audience that is eager to hear me play and ready to sing along with me, having memorized my lyrics.
The more I perform, the more people tell me I sound like Norah Jones, Jewel, Brandi Carlile, and Alicia Keys. These great artists are just a few of the many that have inspired me and taught me what I know about music. Other artists include Gavin DeGraw, John Mayer, Eros Ramazzotti, Rosana, Vasco Rossi, and Alejandro Sanz. I learn from artists all over the world for their different perspectives on life; some of which I share having been brought up in an Argentine family, speaking both Castilian Spanish and Italian.
Yet the more I perform and listen to the sound of my band, the more I realize that I don’t sound like Norah Jones, like Jewel, like Brandi Carlile. The only artist I sound like is in fact me, Delfina. I have a style of singing different from those artists whom have inspired me. I use a unique song structure that I have not heard in any other band. My sound is my self expression, the unity of my heart and soul, something that no one can ever imitate.
I am confident that in time I will develop into a professional musician whose songs are played on the radio and whose presence is not easily forgotten. It is my dream to achieve such exposure, not for the fame and the glory, but for the people I will meet along the way whose lives I will touch with my words, and for the positive influence I know I will bring to the thousands of fans who have recognized me as a role model and who turn to my words for wisdom and comfort.
