Somewhere in the age of 7 or 8 Mark found himself banging on a drum on a stage with his three sisters performing a musical piece, not realizing that his true calling would come 30 years later. This event had an impact on Mark where he would bang on those paper kid drums from the 70’s, going thru them like fire.
As the 80’s came in, Mark was heavily influenced by such bands as Alphaville, Men Without Hats and Depeche Mode. Still not putting together that one day, he would pick up a synthesizer and start making music. Over the next decade, Mark would venture out to Los Angeles and pursue his passion of acting - starring in films and commercials with mild success.
By this time, music slowly crept back into Mark’s life when one day he walked into an Apple store and saw GarageBand on one of the monitors. That feeling from the 70’s and 80’s, without him knowing, came back...it all made sense.
Mark immediately started recording his first album called Diversion - with one keyboard and a vision. Drawing on his inspirations – musical influences like Massive Attack and Recoil, and visual influences Jackson Pollock and Salvador Dali - Mark sculpted a landscape of melodic shapes and colors, populated with layered backbeats and shifting emotions. "I wanted to do something personal; I suddenly discovered [in music] I had this safe place to escape to. It's a place I can go and reveal personal thoughts, express feelings, sometimes intimate, sometimes melancholy, and sort of explore that in tones.”
2006 saw the release of Diversion and its cigarette ash pictured CD sleeve.
Starting right off in 2007, Mark started working on his second CD Filmezza, in which he carefully crafted his personal sound. His studio expanded tremendously with Moogs and Space Echo machines. And after two years, Filmezza was done.
Filmezza unfolds like the telling of a dream - warm and sentimental songs wash in and out with lullaby-like melodies, augmented with disembodied voices of children playing. "Butterfly Envy" acknowledges a Boards of Canada influence with a haunting and emotional sound evoking an image of old home movies. "Roundlake Beach" continues the theme while adding a feeling of dusk and darkness falling. Delicate Noise eloquently phrases personal, thought-provoking, emotional questions with a satisfying richness. Emotive and beautiful, Filmezza provides a soundtrack befitting an old photo of a loved one or a cherished memory with a warmth and satisfaction returning the ears to a sense of wonder.
