Review from www.subba-cultcha.com
First things first, lead singer Natalie Vincini has one of the most smoulderingly seductive voices I’ve heard in a long while, dusky tones and the vocal equivalent of ‘come to bed eyes’, listening to her sing is a very pleasant experience indeed. Even on weaker material she shines, but thankfully the band work hard to provide her with a lot of good tunes to work with. With male vocals courtesy of guitarist Michael Boddy as well, the band have a lot of scope, as realised on the stunning ‘Tears’ a melancholic love duet with Spanish style guitar and touches of strings that plays out like the missing song from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, at once an over the top display of emotion and musically reserved. With ‘Waiting For The Day’ they take the emotion even further, the track opening like a lament, before flourishes of electronic beats lap over the guitar and Vincini’s vocals seep over the top of it all like a dense fog, this is music for a darkened room and a lack of inhibition. Superb!

Biography
An undisclosed North London boozer, lots of red wine and a chance meeting defined the genesis of Delilah’s Gold in 2004. Despite a well-received self-titled EP release and countless headline slots at established London venues, they took two years off the London live circuit – with no long-term aim of reforming – allowing its key players to focus on individual music projects and hone already proven talents.
Time is one of the greatest assets a group of musicians can have: the ability to take five, stand back and see what really works…and for Delilah’s Gold that meant the revival of the band in 2007 and the commitment to finishing an album of songs which they simply couldn’t lay to rest.
Delilah’s Gold have found their feet with Natalie Vincini (lead vocals), a glamourous front woman and natural talent with an instinctive command over each tiny breath; Mike Boddy (guitar and backing vocals), an established producer and engineer who has worked with the likes of Bryan Ferry and The Fall; Karen Brockway (backing vocals and keyboards), a classically-trained singer; and Bob Stewart (bass), an engineer and studio-builder. Playing strings, Cressida Jenkins on violin and James Lindsay ..o.
It may have taken them four years to discover but Delilah’s Gold have finally unearthed what the band was always meant to be: a sophisticated, folk-tinged lounge act for the 21st Century. With ‘A Night At The Circus’ DG has been purified, shining with delicate restraint and quiet power. Whether playful (‘Casanova’; ‘Electric Love’), poignant (‘Into The Dust’; ‘Changes’) or effortlessly moving (‘Falling Star’; ‘Valentine’ featuring Roxy Music’s Andy Mackay), Delilah’s Gold have created a collection of haunting and cinematic pop classics which they hope will capture you heart.
