It is no wonder, given their exploits over the last four years, that DELINQUENT have risen to the very top of the ever-vibrant UK dance scene, and established themselves as one of the country’s top dance music producers.
Having just stormed into top 20 of the UK national charts with their anthem “My Destiny,” Delinquent are certainly solidifying their reputation for making feel-good, anthemic dance music their forte. They are currently celebrating their signing to American record label Next Plateau Entertainment.
Mike Panteli and Philip Omo are renowned for taking UK dance to the next level, spearheading the now-nationwide ‘bassline’ phenomena and ushering in a new wave of highly musical, song-based tracks that have won them remixing work for a variety of top artists, and most recently a single deal assignment with major independent label, All Around The World / MNB
Debuting in the industry in 2003, Delinquent hit the ground running with remixes for Jamelia (‘Bout’), Mis-Teeq (Can’t Get It Back’ / ‘Style’) and Timbaland & Magoo (‘Cop That Disc’) to name but a few, instantly establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with.
Soon Delinquent were inundated with interview requests, appearing on radio shows including Kiss 100 (with Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont) and BBC 1Xtra (with Ras Kwame / DJ Cameo / Richie Vibe Vee). Delinquent’s instantly accessible, power-packed sound re-ignited public interest once more in the four to the floor (or ‘4x4’) style of UK garage. It wasn’t long before a new generation of producers were emulating Delinquent’s floor-filling beats, raucous basslines and hook-laden vocal arrangements.
In 2004 they were commissioned to remix pop princess Natasha Bedingfield’s debut release ‘Single’, which gained heavy rotation in clubs up and down the land. Delinquent followed this by starting up their own entertainment enterprise – Spoilt Rotten – from which they created their highly respected record label, responsible for their huge underground hits ‘Like A Feather’, ‘R U Ready’ and ‘Playin Around’.
By 2005, and with the label firmly established, more remix work flooded in. Delinquent’s official remixes for Usher’s top ten hit ‘Caught Up’ and Ciara’s equally successful ‘1 2 Step’ helped push the duo’s profile to the next level. Media interest in Delinquent, and the 4x4 bassline scene they were spearheading, swiftly grew, and DJ bookings and requests for club PAs followed. This took them across the UK, helping spread the 4x4 and bassline sound throughout the North, the Midlands, Wales and the South Coast as well as in their home-town, London.
The following year, the Spoilt Rotten brand grew, supplying more underground hits with Delinquent’s ‘Ghetto Queen’, ‘Circles’ and Gemma Fox’s ‘Boxers’. Remixes for Supafly and Soundbwoy (Ministry of Sound) garnered yet more acclaim, and by the end of 2006, they cemented their status by winning ‘Best Producer’ at the Muzik 4U Awards.
In 2007 Delinquent followed this accolade with their biggest release to date…’My Destiny’ - featuring the talented new singer / songwriter, Kcat (pronounced as “cat”). The first track from the bassline scene to be signed to a major independent label (via MNB / All Around The World) ‘My Destiny’ was already a firm underground favorite – winning extensive power-play across the specialist radio networks (including 1Xtra and Galaxy) and clubland before propelling Delinquent –and the exciting new bassline sound - into the mainstream spotlight – number 19 in the UK national charts.
Inevitably, requests for bassline remixes have followed, and Delinquent gave their unique touch to Dave Spoon / Lisa Maffia’s ‘Bad Girl At Night’, as well as huge US sensation J’Holiday’s “Bed” (Virgin UK) and Yves Le Rock – “Zookey” & Funkerman – “Speed Up” (Defected).
Delinquent have also mixed and remixed five tracks for Taio Cruz, included as a bonus disc for his official debut album “Departure”.
Delinquent have always lead the pack rather than followed the crowd. This has helped them stay at the cutting edge of their scene, and has also forged their identity as one of the UK’s top dance music producers.
