Delta Theta Projekt is a side project started by K, a founding member of Canadian industrial duo Foil Conduit that was based out of Ottawa. Delta Theta Projekt was his alternative outlet to experiment with new techniques and styles that would not be suitable to pursue under Foil Conduit, but as FC is now dead DTP is his core musical progeny. Starting in 2003, K began constructing simplistic, sombre melodies that soon became formulaic and so the project was put on the back burner and until it's recent resurrection has been primarily used to remix other artists work. The new sound still has elements of trance/EBM in it, although they are few and far between as heavy focus is now put on some more experimental techniques he perfected for use in Foil Conduit.
In 2005/6 Glitch Mode records released a compilation album that featured a Foil Conduit track that K worked heavily on entitled I Broke Them In, and his work with IR from Foil Conduit has been included in an anniversary edition of Unreal Tournament. Some older experimentations are available, but do not reflect well the new direction he is heading. A tangible example of this new direction will be available on a forthcoming compilation release from Slytek (www.slytek.net) due out sometime in early 2007, followed by an independent EP release later in the year.
"I had more fun with music when I had no clue what I was doing...thus armed with some new toys, some new techniques, I plan on returning to my experimental roots by using abstract processes to create something tangible. I found it more enjoyable manipulating some analog feedback I recorded with some chorusing and changing it into an ensemble of creepy leads, or screaming into a distorted microphone and slicing my voice into a synth line rather than picking out the latest preset on a synth emulator for a pad. Expect more things like that. My current goal is to re-establish in my own music what IR and I had in the early days of Foil Conduit: a purity and innocence amidst the aggression that can only come from stumbling blindly into the realm of the abstract and then molding it until it becomes something coherent....and since I know a lot more of the specifics on proper mixing [Christ, back then I didn't even know what clipping was] and a few more toys to make my life easier it should sound a lot more pleasant."
-K
Some interesting and exciting plans are also in the works to provide a more improvisational aspect to Delta Theta Projekt's live shows and the encouragement of audience participation through the use of peripherals. Ambiguity is emphasized here until those plans are finally set into motion and revealed in a live set sometime in the near future.
Over the years K has worked with several other musicians in both live and studio settings, including Truenzie, DYM, Pin, a recent remix for Empty, and Flood Of Rain. In addition to his current work for the forthcoming compilation and EP, he is collaborating with Warren Darby of PIN on a live improvisational, campy, hard-house project called Robot Haus.
