About me:
DemocracyInAction is the first nonprofit providing an affordable, integrated online campaign solution to progressive organizations.

We let groups of every size and every level of technological sophistication put their missions online like that -- collecting online donations, posting write-to-Congress pages, launching e-mail alerts, organizing volunteers, you name it. The smart, daring ones use our tools to let people talk to people and get out of the way: house party meet-ups, personal fundraising pages, listservs, ride boards, local chapters, community networking.

Interested? Check out our tool suite here.

We've now had 5 years of lies about Iraq: 9/11, WMD's, freedom. The real reasons were oil, profiteering, fascism. Not just Bush, but the news media, most of congress, and all who remain silent. And now they'll use fear to quash dissent. It's nothing new -- it's been going on for ages. War, poverty, ecocide, arrogant bullying --they're all from greed and fear, which come from ignorance. ♥ But it's not too late -- we can still learn to make peace. Talk with people. Love, Eric

Thanks for supporting the cause! In the wake of Katrina, we know that Louisiana's coastal crisis means more than the loss of some redfish or blue crabs - it means the difference between a sustainable New Orleans and the next Atlantis - keep spreading the word!

These days' saving the world is too much of a task for super heroes.

Together in numbers our society can take direct action in not only the communities that we live in but in communities that need urgent help around the world.

We can participate in topics that we believe in, volunteer in organizations that we value and donate to federations that we trust.
With the common use of technology and the knowledge of understanding; entire species can be saved, starvation can be wiped out, preserving the future is capable in our present.

We can do something about it!
Post us your ideas for change!

"Of all the creatures, man is the most detestable. Of the entire brood, he's the one that possesses malice. He is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain. The fact that man knows right from wrong proves his intellectual superiority to the other creatures; but the fact that he can do wrong proves his moral inferiority to any creature that cannot."

Moment Magazine

The Moment Magazine Essay Contest for High School Students - grades 9-12

Students around the world, Jewish and not, are extremely concerned about the mass killings occurring in Darfur. The situation there is truly horrific and deserves our attention and whatever help we can give. Sadly, Darfur is but the latest genocide in a long line of genocides, and is unlikely to be the last. Mankind has a history of systematic murder of a particular group by another group. That's why this school year, Moment is asking high school students to tackle a very serious question that they may very well have to contend with in the future.

THE QUESTION:
What can be done to prevent future genocides?

LENGTH:
500 words

DEADLINE:
March 7, 2007

THREE GRAND PRIZES: $500.
Winning essays will also be published in the June 2007 issue of Moment (after they have gone through the normal magazine editing process). Winners will also receive a free one-year subscription to Moment and 10 one-year gift subscriptions to give to friends and family. Every student who participates will receive a free one year subscription to Moment.

TIP:
Essays will be judged on quality of argument and creativity of ideas

HOW TO SEND:
Essays should be emailed to Moment's editor with the subject heading

No escalation of the war in Iraq! Troop surges have been tried in the past, and have only made the violence worse.

We just started an urgent new petition to help prevent President Bush's plans to escalate the war in Iraq. Congress has the power to stop sending more troops, but they will not do it unless we mobilize and ask them to.

Can you sign the petition? Then pass it on.
