About me: Annansi Clothing Co. is joined by Sierra Leonean hip-hop artist Chosan on the Bling is Dead project. The project is the second in our ongoing efforts to educate the general public about the effects of illicit diamond mining on African people and their society. By saying Bling is Dead we're challenging people to rethink their motivation for investing in diamonds and ask more questions of the diamond retailers. Bling is Dead is an attempt at changing the mentality of excessive uninformed diamond consumption which allows retailers to continue their explotative business practices. The Bling is Dead t-shirt is available through our site at www.BlingIsDead.org
The Bling is Dead project is a part of the Demand Details! initiative which encourages a global community to demand details from the diamond industry. Details about the sale history of diamonds and details that will ensure that the diamonds we purchase do not support wars in African nations. Through key programs and partnerships Demand Details! gives Annansi Clothing Co. customers and the public at large the proper tools and facts to make educated decisions about purchasing diamonds while pushing retailers to become more responsible in their business practices.
A portion of all profits from the sale of the Demand Details! shirt will be donated to several established organizations to help raise consciousness and benefit communities affected by the conflict diamond trade.
Let us remember on this Memorial Day those who dedicated their lives for our ongoing battle for freedom.
Men and woman who provided leadership and never compromised towards the goal of freedom for African people worldwide. Men and woman who sacrificed and many who even lost their lives towards this struggle. Men and woman whose purpose, passion, and love for our community provided great strides towards our prosperity. Individuals like Toussaint L'Ouverture, Malcolm X, Patrice Lumumba, Martin R. Delany, Kwame NKrumah, Marcus Garvey, Jomo Kenyatta, WEB Du Bois, Nat Turner, Kwame Ture, and so many more.
Our freedom fighters our heroes, let us honor them on this day.

How we see history shapes how we see the present and how we can imagine -- and work for -- a better future.
"To omit or minimize these voices of resistance is to create the idea that power only rests with those who have the guns, who possess the wealth, who own the newspapers and the television stations. I want to point out that people who seem to have no power, whether working people, people of color, or women--once they organize and protest and create movements--have a voice no government can suppress." Howard Zinn, Voices of a People's History of the United States
