Demencia's Biography

A band originated from Iquique city. It was born in 1995, under the name of "“Kaníbal Kañero” when at that period the idea arose like a Project of a band reliving the old Hardcore of “The Accussed, G.B.H, The Exploited, Voivod, S.O.D among Others”. The changes of line-up and the creation of their own tracks were giving a different idea to the band and one complete musical Reconstruction that lasts to date with clear influence of bands like: Kreator, Destruction, Dark Angel, Obituary, Testament, Exodus and Sodom. The thematic that refers the lyrics goes in an ample affluent interval and mostly they are not very direct, but they are always in a sixth sense referring to hallucinations, histories of terror, vehemence, abuses of physical and mental authority, paganism, War, ideologies and experiences of the band, etc… Always on the hand of which at this moment is happening with them, the world and this fucking society that surrounds us. In 1997 its name changed to DEMENCIA. Then, they recorded a Rehearsal Tape by the end of ..98, which made them participate in a compiled “Estruendos del Metal” so as to ,then, release their first demo called “RELATOS” containing tracks like Insomnia, relatos, and dementes that was recorded in 1999 and released by the middle of the year 2000 in the Gig “Agresion enEscenarios”, then they participated in several local events and outside the Region showing a musical and scenic repertoire pretty heavy and aggressive one calling the attention of their first followers, also their songs began to sound in significant local means of broadcasting like national ones. The sound in reality is not bad, but it made recall a little bit to the 80's demos, their line-up at that period was: Giovanni R. (Voice and guitar) ex--DARK GOD, Octavio M. (Guitar), Fernando Y. (bass and chorus), and Henry P. (Drums) ex--ANTHROPINISM. By the middle of the year 2001, the band changed their line-up because of lack of commitment in the projects having an alternative formation: Giovanni Rivera. (Voice and Guitars); his brother, Leonardo Rivera is recruited (Drums and chorus) and Alex F. (Bass). Their second demo called “Síndrome del Abismo” is recorded, which as their first edition, contained 3 tracks: Opresión, Comercio Pagano and Muerte Silenciosa, selling about 200 copies at National level, sounding in local and regional radios (North and South of the Country). By the middle of the year 2002, the band began to find the path with a new line-up that was made up with: Giovanni R. (Voice and Guitar), Henoch P. (Lead Guitar), Rodrigo V. (Bass) ex--PORTENTOUS, and Leonardo R. (Drums and chorus). Two more new tracks were recorded: “Dementhrash” and “Agresión en Escenarios”, these ones together with their first demo “Relatos” were included like bonus tracks in a new edition of “Sindrome del Abismo” releasing 200 copies, but selling out quickly (7 tracks of the most pure and aggressive Thrash Metal, obtaining a better sound, excellent title page design and material cover). By the end of the year 2002 they work intensely in what their first visual work was, which in February of the year 2003 with edition and Professional semi recording (nonamateur), released their first video clip with their track already mentioned “Dementhrash”, a visual material very oriented to the classic old thrash, and published very well (in spite of being an independent production). Later, they recorded their third work called “ENGENDROS”, which counts with tracks like: Fobia, Dementhrash, Engendros, Opresión “live version” (as bonus Track) and also it includes their Work in Video clip. Honestly, a truly brutal production, with an analogous sound by far weight and true metal taking into account very technical and original ideas, and therefore an intense and a much more brutal (direct to the vein). Unfortunately, after this work the band underwent a new change of member but this time Henoch P. The band continued fighting and after several attempts of searching and castings with guitarists, Pedro B arrived. (ex- member of Portentous and Disaster). The band found the ideal guy to replace Pinilla. Later, at the beginning of the 2004 the band still remains with the same line-up, Pedro slowly felt comfortable in their promotional tours of Engendros, but in the already composition of new tracks the acclimatization was simplier, therefore the line-up is: Giovanni Rivera (voice /guitar), Pedro Bruna (Lead guitar), Rodrigo Villar (Bass), and Leonardo Rivera (Drums and chorus). Throughout that period the band shared stage with bands of international tone having incredible acceptance by the members and aggressive shows on stage. At the beginning of the year 2006 the band entered to record what would be their first L.P. A experience that has made mature much to each one of the members since they felt that what there was being recorded could give much of which to speak. Their first LP called ‘METALDISTORTION’ has delayed a lot because the band has been victim of many offers in which they have not been agree. Also, they have been patients since their work has not been spread, but once it is released it will be a new work too by August of the year 2008 when there will be available at last. By the end of year 2007 they release a new single ‘NUCLEAR WAR’ which include two tracks recorded in studio that will appear in the LP plus five live tracks compiled from year 2004 in which there are still available works from a second edition because the first one is not longer available in the market. In this moment, as mentioned before, Demencia is waiting for their new LP under AGRESOR RECORDS plus their second old promotional video clip besides several dates which will be managed so as to travel abroad in order to promote their brutal work.

DEMENCIA (BIOGRAFIA 09/04/2009)

DEMENCIA es un grupo de thrash metal formado en 1997 en la ciudad de Iquique, Chile, por Giovanni Rivera, Octavio Molina, Fernando Yánez (Q.E.P.D), y Henry Ponce. En 1998 graban un Rehearsal Tape, el cual los llevo a participar de un importante compilado nacional llamado “Estruendos del Metal”. En 1999 graban su primer demo I, llamado “RELATOS” que contiene temas como Insomnia, Relatos, y Dementes, luego participan de varios eventos locales como fuera de la Región mostrando un repertorio musical y escénico propio muy pesado y agresivo llamando la atención en sus primeros seguidores, también sus canciones comienzan a sonar en importantes medios de radiodifusión locales como nacionales. En aquel entonces era un sonido crudo que mantenía el recuerdo de los demos de la década de los ochenta. Posteriormente problemas internos en la banda no fueron impedimentos para que a mediados del 2001 una nueva formación con: Giovanni Rivera. (Voz y Guitarras), Leonardo Rivera (Batería y coros) y Alex Fredez. (Bajo). entraran a grabar su segundo demo titulado “Síndrome del Abismo” el cual como primera edición contenía 3 temas: Opresión, Comercio Pagano y Muerte Silenciosa, vendiendo alrededor de 200 copias a nivel Nacional del cual posee un mejor sonido y arte de carátula. Posterior a ello re editan 200 copias más que incluía su primer demo, y 2 maquetas de temas nuevos que estaban trabajando en aquel momento. A mediados del 2002, la banda marcha con una nueva alineación que se Compone con : Giovanni R. (Voz y Guitarra), Leonardo Rivera. (Batería y coros), Henoch Pinilla.(Primera Guitarra), y Rodrigo Villar. (Bajo),. Esta formación marca el inicio de lo que es la base hasta el día de hoy. Se presentan en varias ciudades y son invitados a telonear a grandes bandas nacionales. A fines del 2002 trabajan intensamente en lo que seria su primer trabajo visual, del cual en Febrero del año 2003 con edición y grabación semi Profesional (No amateur), lanzan su primer video Clip con su tema “Dementhrash”, un material visual muy a lo clásico del viejo thrash, y muy bien editado (a pesar de ser una producción independiente). Mas tarde graban su tercer trabajo llamado “ENGENDROS”, que incluye temas como: Fobia, Dementhrash, Engendros, como bonus track incluye el ya mencionado video clip y un tema en vivo llamado “Opresión”, Sinceramente una producción verdaderamente brutal, con un sonido análogo con mucho peso y metal directo a la vena. Con una cantidad de 400 discos agotados rápidamente y que ahora se re edito nuevamente. A comienzos del 2004; Henoch es Re. Emplazado por Pedro Bruna cerrando un ciclo de cambios de integrantes que ya la banda pudo parar. Entonces la formación que hasta la fecha de hoy sigue unida cuenta con: Giovanni Rivera (1ºvoz / 2º guitarra), Pedro Bruna (1º guitarra), Rodrigo Villar (Bajo), y Leonardo Rivera (Batería / 2º voz). Desde comienzos del 2004 la banda no a vuelto a sufrir cambios de integrantes, Pedro se amoldo lentamente en la giras promociónales de “Engendros”, aunque en la composición de nuevos temas la banda se consolida con mayor fuerza. Durante todo ese periodo la banda se midió en escenarios con grandes bandas internacionales teniendo increíble aceptación por la compaginación de sus integrantes y show agresivo en el escenario. Comienzos del 2007 lanzan al mercado un nuevo Demo / Live “NUCLEAR WAR” que incluyen 2 temas en estudio (adv L.P), más 5 temas de un en vivo recopilado del año 2004 llamado “LIVE INFERNO” agotándose rápidamente las primeras 300 copias. Con un excelente sonido y composición, que ya marcaba el nacimiento de lo que seria su primer album. Agosto del 2008, Sale al mercado el esperado álbum debut llamado “METAL DISTORTION” por la compañía AGRESOR RECORDS , con una distribución Internacional en toda América, Europa, y el Continente Asiático. Un brutal Thrash Metal que componen 8 bestiales cortes como: Attack of Demon’s, Agresión en Escenarios, Metal Distortion, Carnada Infernal, Sacro Bestial, Fobia, Guerreros del Metal, y Nuclear war del cual en los meses siguientes editan su segundo video clip lanzado en enero del 2009. En cuanto a sus líricas en Español e Ingles tienen una temática bien amplia y en su mayoría no son muy directos, gran porcentaje habla de sus propias vivencias e ideologías, también juegan siempre en un sexto sentido referente a alucinaciones, historias de terror, critica social, abusos de poder, guerra, paganismo , entre otros... Ahora se esta editando el próximo video clip promocional “Agresión en escenarios” versión live, que se estima que estará disponible a fines de mayo del 2009. Por ahora la banda se encuentra proyectándose para grabar su segundo album en verano del 2010. La banda marcan tendencias por la Vieja Escuela del Metal que podríamos mencionar algunos de sus inspiraciones como: Sodom, Testament, Death, Obituary, Kreator, The Acussed, Motorhead, Metallica (rip) y Destruction, entre oros.
