How is roller derby played?
A bout (or game) consists of 3 twenty minute periods, which are divided up into 2-minute long jams. During a jam each team has 5 skaters on the track: 1 jammer, 1 pivot, 3 blockers.
Jammers: Star on helmet, score the points. Pivots: Stripe on helmet, set pace of the pack, last line of defense against jammers. Blockers: Majority of the pack, stop opposing jammer from getting through.
The jam starts with the pack (pivots and blockers) skating on the referee's single whistle. When the referee blows a double whistle the jammers take off. The jammers fight through the pack while being blocked and hit by the opposing team's blockers. After a jammer's initial pass through the pack, one point is earned for every blocker she passes from the opposing team.

So did I hear that you kick ROCK's ass? Awesome job wish I could have been there. I swear I'll be at one of the games even if I have to fly in. Dot and I have been talking about it for too long. How's the season going?
Thanks for having us out - we had a fantastic time! Loved the masonite (and how it sort of commits you to falling into the suicide seating with every fall! Lol) and the great game. You ladies ROCK!!!
