Denise Barbarita is a singer-songwriter, but don’t tell her that because it’ll just piss her off. Besides, it’s not exactly true. Unfortunatly, for some, the term “singer-songwriter” evokes the stereotypical image of a girl with a guitar, some cute songs about smelly cats, and a fear of anything technical. That’s not Denise.
She, a graduate of Berklee College of Music, with a degree in Music Production and Engineering, engineers and produces her own CDs at the acclaimed Kampo Studios, where she is an engineer. And Denise, besides having herself as a client, has also worked with a long list of top selling artists including Grammy nominees Angie Stone, Herbie Hancock, David Byrne, Mary J. Blige and The Roots. Along the way she’s also been at the mixing board to help many independent artists realize their vision, including Brenda Kahn, Kristi Martel, Halley Devestern, Pale Beneath the Blue, Pillow Theory, Kevin So, Allison Tartalia, & guitarist Michael Hewett.
As far as guitar skills, Denise has all the rock riffs at her fingertips in an uncanny way, from clean and light to crunchy and dirty. She can handle a delicate acoustic guitar as easily as her prized blonde Tele.
Oh, yeah – and then there’s the voice. There’s no denying the voice. Soft without being timid, powerful without trying too hard and just so damned musical. It’s a voice pulled deep from a well of emotion and skill. Put another way: The girl’s got vocal chops, in a serious way, prompting one reviewer to describe her as being "possessed with a fire and a voice which gives people goosebumps".
And that goes for her songs, as well. In 2000, Denise teamed up with guitarist, David Weintraub, drummer, Rich Kulsar, and bassist Jason Wallenstein to produce her debut album, “Beauty Lied”. The album hit the shelves with rave reviews in 2002. Denise was chosen as Women Who Rock's "Girl Underground" and she has been featured in numerous publications such as Billboard, Ballbuster, and WomanRock.
Denise released her 2nd CD, “Chaos and Congeniality”, in 2005, which has also enjoyed rave reviews. She toured extensively in support of her new release, performing as a soloist, as well as with her band, The Morning Papers, stunning audiences across the U.S. with her live performances. You can get a taste of the live show by picking up a copy of her latest release, "Alive & B-Sides"(2007).
The album showcases new arrangements of old songs and a new band line-up as well!
Since 2007, guitarist Kelsey Warren (Also the frontman of his acclaimed band, Pillow Theory) has been performing with Denise. He will also be featured on her upcoming studio album, "A Beautiful Mess", which she plans to have completed by the end of 2008.
Denise's music can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon, and CDBaby.com. Songs from both of her albums can be heard regularly on the daytime television drama, “One Life to Live”, "The Young & The Restless", and ABC's prime time drama, "Traveler".

Thanks for the message, Denise. It is so nice to find someone who not only sings but combines that with some really different, exciting sounds. Your voice soars, but so do the wonderful arrangements. Do keep in touch. All the best, Sara
