Music
Almost anything considered NeoSoul including Jill Scott (of course), India Arie, Maxwell, Corinne Bailey Rae, Angie Stone, Erykah Badu, Musiq, Goapele, Alicia Keys, Adriana Evans and the list goes on...
For a little Old School, nothing beats The O’Jays, The Isley Brothers or Frankie Beverly & Maze.
If I'm in a mellow mood, it’s John Coltrane all the way.
If I wanna get up and dance, I opt for my fellow Southern Belle, Beyonce’ and throw in a bit of Prince.

Books
My all time favorite is “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom and I’m currently reading Sidney Poitier’s “The Measure of a Man”…I’ll keep you posted on the verdict!
While growing up in the small town of Maurice, Louisiana, Denise dreamed a more practical dream of becoming a doctor, while conquering this "mystical" place called Hollywood and becoming a film and TV actress never really crossed her mind. Following graduation from North Vermilion High School (Go Patriots!) and thereafter obtaining a degree in Mass Communications from Louisiana State University (Go Tigers!), Denise's creative intuition led her to the world of advertising where she quickly became a respected account executive at various leading Dallas, Texas-based advertising agencies, tending to the clients of various brands including Pampers, Fossil, Mary Kay Cosmetics, among others. While overseeing commercial and photo shoots for her clients' campaigns, Denise was introduced to life "on-set" and became fascinated by the endless possibilities this new world offered.
Before long, following an introduction to a local talent agent, Denise found herself in front of the lens for a variety of print and commercial campaigns. A series of introductions landed her a talent manager in Hollywood, and Denise decided to take a leap of faith, packed her truck and headed West.
In less than two years, Denise has emerged as one of Hollywood's busiest new faces, highlighted with guest and recurring roles on numerous popular TV shows, including "Everybody Hates Chris," "Boston Legal," "Girlfriends," "Days of Our Lives," "Cuts" and "Noah's Arc". On the big screen, you can catch Denise as leading lady, "Diane" in "Sister's Keeper," in Harold Sylvester's "NOLA," Damon Wayans' "Behind the Smile," "Parental Guidance Suggested," and Donald Faison's "Welcome to Hollywood" among others.
Most recently, Denise has teamed up with entertainment pioneer, Tyler Perry, playing the series regular role of "Sasha Bowman" in "Meet the Browns," his next highly-anticipated TV series and stars as "Trina" alongside Perry himself, Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Sharon Leal, Tasha Smith, Lamman Rucker, Malik Yoba, Michael Jai White and the rest of the star studded cast of Perry's latest film creation, "Why Did I Get Married?".
Who knows where this girl's gonna turn up next?!?!?
You are enough, just as you are. This moment is enough, just as it is. Everything you truly value is with you always. The power you seek is yours when you choose to act.
Those things that seem to limit you and challenge you can also create a path to greater strength. Right now you are already connected to your greatest possibilities.
Your achievements and successes do not make you who you are. They are some of the ways in which you most sincerely and lovingly express who you are.
The disappointments and setbacks do not take anything away from the value of your life. They give you the opportunity to more fully understand, appreciate and expand that value.
Whatever is happening, all is well. Everything that is, is yours to experience, to value, to love and to fulfill.
Always know that what other people think of you is their own concern, not yours. Do what you know is right, and fully accept that others will think what they will think.
Certainly it is valuable to make a good impression. Keep in mind, though, that the best way to make a good impression is not to worry endlessly about what others think.
The way to make the best impression is to be authentic. Allow the goodness that is within you to shine through your genuine courtesy, kindness, respect and consideration.
By caring so much about receiving validation from others, you prevent yourself from getting it. Instead, share your real value with those around you and that value will be clear for all to see.
Don't waste your time and effort keeping up appearances. Put your attention and energy into real solid substance, and your appearance will take care of itself.
The more you strive to make a good impression, the less successful you'll be at doing so. Just relax and be yourself, and you'll be truly and authentically impressive.
