About me: I am an artist based in Portsmouth and my work is usually video and performance based with autobiographical references. The context of the work is based on the representation of identity including an exploration into male, female and family identity. I have worked collaboratively with other artists, DJs and VJs for club nights broadening exhibition opportunities from the gallery into club and live band events. I have curated exhibitions and events where opportunity for cross genre and multi disciplinary arts exist. Interests include the role of curator in the changing face of curating live art, art/science/technology collaboration and non gallery spaces. Stills from the moving image film sculptures (for Helsinki's debut performance) can be seen in the second row of images below. See blog entries for upcoming exhibitions and events or take a look at my website www.denisecallender.com to get an idea of the context of my work. I belong to the Portsmouth film group Digital Creatives, with whom I made a collaborative pieces The Kiss, Faces of a Steelpan Festival and Vanishing Twin. Original music is often an important component to my work and I have collaborated with Martin Warnes of Resonator, Jim Shaw of The Cranes, Jon Callender of Carmen Rosa and Helsinki and Dean Clarke of Vex.
