Er hat mit Pablo Held einen außergewöhnlichen Pianisten ins Boot geholt, und einem Konzeptalbum, das es an Waghalsigkeit und Schönheit in sich hat, schippert die Combo zwar nicht den Mississippi runter, aber zweifellos die Karriereleiter rauf. Zu Recht, denn Gäbel huldigt seinem großen Vorbild nicht mit einem zwar gut gemeinten aber letzten Endes doch unprätentiösen Imitat, sondern mit einer eigenwilligen, intelligenten und extrem spannenden Neuinterpretation alter Ellington Klassiker. Denis Gäbel is a Cologne based Saxophone-Player. He has studied Music on Institutes
such as the "Conservatory of Amsterdam" and the "Manhattan School of Music", NYC.
In 2006 his first CD as a leader "Keep on Rollin" was released on Nagel-Heyer records.
This recording which features along with Denis, Jasper Blom on Tenor Sax, Henning Gailing on Bass and Hendrik Smock on Drums is a celebration of Sonny Rollins' 50s Trio Music.

Next to working with his Trio, Denis composes music for his Quartet "Denis Gäbel 4" and arranges the work of Charles Mingus for his Octet "Denis Gäbel 8".
He is activly composing and arranging for "Tom Gaebel and his Big Band", where he also holds the Tenorsax-Chair and performs all over Germany.
Denis has performed a.o. on the Moers Festival, JazzOpen in Stuttgart, Ludwigsburger Jazztage, WDR3 Jazzcologne, Klara Festival Brüssel, Burghausener Jazztage and in Jazzclubs and Halls all over the country.
