Den Johnson was almost born in County Durham, his family moving to Robin Hood country in the midlands about a month before he was. This is where he did his growing up. He started playing guitar some 20 years ago. At the time he was a miner. He worked in the mine for 12 years before the closure programme imposed by the Tory government of the day meant that he, like many others, left the mining industry behind. During a few difficult years in and out of work he would take to the streets busking where, coupled with visits to various folk clubs and jamming with friends, he learned to deliver his sound.
' My songs are about things i've seen, things i've done, things i've heard of, places i've been, people i've known and thoughts i've thinked about. They're a bunch of ideas i suppose. That's all.'

' Recently i've met and started getting to know quite a few singer/songwriters living in my area as well as coming into contact with even more on myspace all trying, in their own special way, to do the same as me. You can find most of them in my friends list. Check them out, they're OK. They're all cool as far as i'm concerned. People and the music they make are an inspiration. I've always loved seeing and hearing someone getting up and doing their own song as best they can. There's only one thing when it comes to music that can touch this, and that's doing it yourself.'
Den Johnson lives with his wife and family and goes to work nearly every day. He also continues to make his music and write his songs. If you like his sound look out for him or get him on somewhere near you, in a club, or a bar, or a festival or your front room, anywhere it doesn't matter. He won't let you down. Den can cut it live with the best of them.
Good news. Den has recently teamed up with Dawn Pickering to create Rhum. Hoping to push this further in 2008. Look out for their cd 'Rhum & the Marras'. Myspace page to come in the near future. Will keep you posted.
