About me:

I was born in Iowa and raised in Nebraska. Growing up around horses, I have been enamored with them for as long as I can remember. At the age of 14, I ran a summer riding program at a local ranch. After a stint in the service, I spent time in Illinois learning to shoe and break horses – the old fashioned way.

But my admiration and understanding of horses were at odds with the old ways of breaking them to the trainer’s will. I knew there had to be a better way – a way predicated on developing what I believe is a natural bond between human and horse. My current methods, which focus on partnership, cooperation, and encouragement, grew out of this desire to improve upon the methods of old.

Since 1996 I have been committed full time to working with horses and have spent thousands of hours studying other training methods and fine-tuning my own system. I began offering training clinics in 2000. In 2002 I produced my first series of training tapes, and shortly thereafter produced 12 episodes of a television show that was aired on RFDTV.

Soon thereafter I founded Changing Horses, LLC, and for the past several years I have been working to create a program about horses that offers a broader perspective (far beyond training methods) to a wider audience. The result is an exciting television program slated to run on PBS member stations nationally beginning in January 2009.
