Dennis Gilmore is a multi-talented musician fluent in a wide range of musical styles. But he is probably best known for his traditional Irish music. Dennis preserves the classic Celtic feeling while singing his own unique interpretations in his inimitable style.
His two albums, The Parting Glass and Morning Glory, released through Livingroom Productions, are now available through Janus Company Music, MalloryandMcCall.com, or directly from Dennis, in person at a performance, or message him for more information. They contain an enchanting collection of Dennis' renditions of well-known Celtic songs as well as sea songs and some tunes by Charlie MacGowan. It's a fine way to bring a renaissance, Irish or even pirate faire home!
Many of us first heard Dennis playing with Charlie MacGowan, veteran traditional performer who recently passed away. Dennis, along with Charlie's son and Bob Brinkman of Modern Bard, have undertaken to search out and preserve the "lost" recordings featuring Charlie. Live performances are ephemeral, and the work of so many veteran performers who sing and play in specialty genres, like fairs and the folk scene, is often lost to posterity. Once the restorations are complete, Charlie's talents will be heard for generations to come.
Dennis can be found doing his solo act at various Crossroads Productions faires, as well as other venues in the Southern California area. And, of course, look for him when he performs with The Skeleton Crew Pirate Band!
Dennis doesn't limit his talents to music. He is a fine wood and metal worker, his most explosive creations being cannons. BIG cannons. Thus his pirate nickname, "Cannonball." Perhaps you have seen (rather, heard!) some of his creations percussing at various Renaissance Faires in the Southern California area in the encampment Torc Dubh, or on the History Channel Episode 81. This is one performer who knows how to make a big bang!
