Hi… I'm a singer/songwriter from the Texas Gulf Coast... just trying to find my way in the big musical world...
As long as i can remember I've been all over the chart as far as music goes... I grew up loving Elvis... actually got to go see him with someone that knew him when I was about 12... they wanted me to play french horn in the band but my mom made me play the sax because it was cooler (thank goodness)... The first concert I ever went to when I could drive was Harry Chapin, John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, and James Taylor… no band, just those four guys… not a bad line up… so in the beginning, that’s what I learned to play on the guitar… along the way, I discovered Bob Segar, Neil Diamond, Jim Croce, the Eagles, Kiss, Willie and Waylon, and a whole bunch of other people... as you can see, I have a WIDE variety of influences... eventually I found Jimmy Buffett and I was forever hooked…
OK... so.... I grew up... spent a year in Belgium... backpacked through Europe... came home and went to college... spent some time in the military... jumped out of airplanes... spent about a year off and on in Grenada (nice way to mix combat with a caribbean vacation)... went and lived in Europe again for a few more years.... and finally settled in Texas (wasn't born here but i got here as fast as i could)..... I found a whole new world of music.. got turned on to a whole bunch of great artists and reintroduced to some others... you can get whatever you want down here and i think that's great!... I still love all different kinds of music...
Everybody always asks what exactly is "TropRock"... well I think it probably means something different for everybody... For me, it's not always about margarita's, tropical places and palm trees (although those are some of my favorite things !) there's more to it... I think it's just music that makes you feel good... It's a feeling... it's parrotheads and sing-a-longs and dancing and parties... it reminds you of good times and summer days... beach music is different anywhere you go so you can't just say that TropRock is one type of music... bottom line is it just makes you feel good !
My songs are about family, friends, love - and all the feelings that come with it... summer days, the beach, and good times... all of those things are usually going to find a way into my music... it's just fun, feel good stuff that you can kick back, relax, sing along with and not have to work to hard to figure out what the message is... my music is still kind of all over the place and there's a little bit of everything in my songs... texas, beach, country, rock, pop... a little this, a little that.. I still like it all and I try to please everybody.. . so thanks for listening... hope you hear something you like...........

Review by Jinelle Boyd (My Texas Music)
It’s a scary thing – CD reviews, that is. Sometimes you get your hopes up because something about the packaging appeals to you, and as you begin to listen, you realize what’s inside wasn’t what you were expecting at all. In the case of “BAREFOOT ON THE BEACH”, the debut project from Angleton’s Dennis Davis, I was rewarded with much more than I anticipated.
This is not another beachy-sounding Jimmy Buffet-wannabe collection of flaky songs. Oh, no, no! It took several songs for me to realize that it’s just impossible to pigeon-hole Dennis into any one genre of music. This guy is all over the place, musically, which is a wonderful testament to his many musical influences. Imagine if James Taylor and Maria Muldaur had a love child and they played records for him by Buffalo Springfield, "The Buff" and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band – voila! Dennis Davis.
The underlying thread throughout this disc is FUN FUN FUN – the music is light and breezy, with excellent use of different instruments not found in the cookie-cutter crapola usually played on radio these days. “Feel-good” all the way through without being flaky or mushy. Excellent songwriting, masterful guitar, and wonderful vocal delivery. It’s a shame Dennis was not an Academy member prior to the Texas Music Awards deadline this year – we all might have just seen him on the nominee list!
I, for one, am Dennis Davis’ newest fan – I anticipate many wonderful things from him in the future. Until then, grab this disc – it doesn’t matter WHAT kind of music you like, you’ll dig this project, and it's the PERFECT CD to put in the player when you're having a party and don't want to have to keep changing discs!
