Following his timely 2004 debut on Varial, the Derailleur sound
continues
to gather momentum and prestige. Having garnered a reputation for solid
production values and engaging live performance, Derailleur has
cemented
his status as one of the UK's most promising electronic talents.
Extracting the best from Stateside and European influences, the
Derailleur
sound is typified by deep chords, tribal rhythms and punchy, analogue
basslines. With a swelling portfolio of output, including recent remix
duties for The Black Dog and Vector Lovers, 2008 looks set to be a
significant year, especially with the completion of his debut album,
Mechanical Isolation. Both listenable and danceable in equal measure the
long
player is both a nod to the past and a window to the future. Fusing
the
warmth of analogue hardware with classical orchestral instrumentation,
the
album is brimming with the raw emotional seductiveness that has come to
typify the Derailleur sound.
In addition to completing his solo LP, the long standing collaboration
with
Varial Records frontman Mat Carter has also produced an album. As
Betaville
the pair explore the more cinematic angles of electronic music. The
project
has enjoyed enthusiastic support from the Dust Science label, with
tracks
such as Surface Tension appearing on the 2007 compilation Faith is
Fear. A
second track from the LP has also been featured on the new 'Watch the
Ride'
Compilation Mixed by Andrew Weatherall. Out now on Harmless Records,
the
duo are highly optmistic of the projects future.
