MySpace a place for friends

This is me is a Derbyshire Youth Forum and Derbyshire County Council led campaign. It's all about challenging the stereotyping of young people by the media and promoting a positive image of Derbyshire’s teenagers.

The media often refer to young people as ‘yobs’, ‘hoodies’ and similar, but this isn’t a fair description of the majority of young people.

And many people also think that young people are involved in anti-social behaviour - crime, drugs and intimidation – more than ever before, but this isn’t true! Just because you wear a hooded top and hang out with your friends outside doesn't mean you should be labelled as trouble.

Are you a budding local band or solo act? We want you to come up with a song for the This is me campaign. The winner will receive £250 and their song recorded at the Donut Recording Studio in Chesterfield. The song can essentially be about whatever you like…however, the only catch is that it must contain the words This is me in it.

YOU MUST BE BETWEEN 11 - 21 YEARS OLD AND LIVING IN DERBYSHIRE TO ENTER!

Send your audio files to us at thisisme@derbyshire.gov.uk by Friday 15 February 2008. Make sure you include your band/acts name, your name(s),your date(s) of birth, your email address, your telephone number.

Your track will be uploaded onto the This is me website where people will be able to vote for their favourite. The song with the most votes by Friday 7 March 2008 will become the campaign’s official theme tune. The winning band or artist will get £250 as well as having the track recorded in the Donut Recording Studio. You will need parental consent to enter.
