I think growing up in a small rural farming community was my biggest influence, I wouldn't have traded it for anything! I grew up living out in the country surrounded by cows and corn, in a little town where everybody knew everybody. I spent the majority of my childhood with my Grandparents, and everyone in the county seemed to know my Grandpa, and no one had a bad word to say about him! I was with him almost 24/7, we'd go everyday for coffee, then to his barn to feed the chickens and our hunting dogs, then over to the creek to hunt for snakes or just wade around. My Grandfather was the best, he always had time for me and taught me just about everything I know...including my country values, and my love of music! We'd watch Lawrence Welk every night, then Hee-Haw, and he'd sit on the floor by the couch picking at his old banjo. My grandfather has passed on now, but his memory lives strong in me every minute of every day. He never got to see me sing on stage, but I'm sure he knows.

Meet Little House Records Nashville Recording Artist DEREK JOSEPH!!
Born and raised in Phelps, NY, Derek was fortunate enough to live in a small rural farming community with 1 stoplight and only about 3,000 residents, and grew up learning small town country values. He's always had a love for music, and from the earliest of ages had a stereo in his bedroom, singing along and always listening to music whenever he could. He began his musical journey taking piano lessons at 8 years old, and played for several years, but eventually took a liking to the drums and began taking lessons, and Derek eventually played with several successful local bands for 10+ years around the Finger Lakes area.
A few years later on a trip to Mississippi to visit his father, also a budding guitarist and singer, his father convinced him to give singing a shot, since Derek loved to sing but had never pursued it, only in the car and in the shower! Well, he belted out to a karaoke track, and low and behold, he really could sing! Derek landed a job as lead singer for local band favorite Bad Habit, but it was a rock/classic rock band and definitely not what he really wanted, but was extremely thankful for the experience and opportunity he got and was glad to have done it! Derek moved on to form the band Southern Drawl, the country band he truly desired, and sang with them for about 9 months, but was fortunate enough to be asked to sing lead in a new band being formed by one of the best guitarists in The Finger Lakes area. This was a huge opportunity for Derek that he had to take, so he left Southern Drawl to help form the band Outland! Outland quickly rose to become one of Upstate New Yorks premiere Country acts, and Derek enjoyed many accolades to his singing!
Recently, Derek signed a recording contract with Little House Records-Nashville and released his debut single "NO COOL WAY", which continues to climb the Music Row Country Breakout Chart! Derek has also left Outland to form his solo act and promote his National Debut Release to Country Radio!
Derek is living the dream, and his dedication and hard work will get him where he wants to be....singing on a stage near you!!
