I started making beats on drum machines in 1987 when I was frustrated with my would-be punk band. Our drummer played Beatles beats, our guitarist sounded like the dude from Ratt mixed with The Cult, and I wanted to make stuff that sounded like hardcore... with no lessons. So, I borrowed my friend's TR-505, ran it and a Casiotone through my guitar pedals into an amp and recorded with the mic on my boombox. I told a guy I used to chat with on a BBS about the music I was making, and he said I should listen to Skinny Puppy, and so I got the "Stairs and Flowers" ep with "Assimilate" on it, and I knew I wanted to be Skinny Puppy more than anything in the world... Now it is 21 years later and I have done several different things related to electronic music: had an industrial-ish band for 3 years, did some live performances with giant puppet troops, did a couple of soundtracks for no-budget projects and theatrical folly, and did a few performances with my all battery powered "Dry Cell Orchestra". None of them sound like Skinny Puppy, or even close. Primarily, I like making oddly timed loops and creating what I call Fractal Saturation Music(tm). My compositions often contain samples that are samples of something I did using samples of something else I did. It's like a mirrored funhouse of sound. Well at least that's how I see it. Some people dig it, most don't. When I perform I find that people are more fascinated with the process than the output. Which is fine because while the output is the intention of the effort, I enjoy the process of making new soundscapes more than performing a song over and over. I never intend to stop my experiment. If you are interested in remixing or using an element of one of my pieces feel free to contact me for samples.
