Hey Y'all,

 

just a little about me and what I do.Born in Londonderry Northern ireland Relocated these days to Minnesota USA,I started my musical adventure so long ago it's darn near the year 1 LOL. Got my first guitar at the tender age of 14 almost drove my family insane till I learned to play it.But heck my Mom bought it to me so she only had herself to blame. Well practised hard almost every spare minute usually confined to the bathroom ( acoustics were better LOL) though it caused a few problems when someone had to go cause oft times I was singing and strumming so loud I didnt hear the agonising cries outside the door.I sounded a bit like the proverbial banshee wailing back then in fact me & the cat sang harmonies. By 19 I was out there doing my Thang on the pub and club circuit earning a crust or two and picking up all the playing tips I could from my peers this stood me in good stead for future years where I toured extensively all around Europe in Country & Country Rock bands life was good tiring but good, then I got married HECK that put an end to the touring LOL but not the playing I concentrated on doing more gigging around Ireland then. Started songwriting in my late 20's but most never saw the light of day as the bread & butter was earned doing the Covers of the day folks just didnt wanna hear the inate ramblings of the singer/songwriter.

 

That was the trend till I kinda quit for a while in my late thirties but still kept writing just for my own pleasure. Then came the age of technology and the INTERNET That got me kinda interested in playing again so I dug out the guitar and for the first time ever people actually clapped when I sang an original song . It felt good so I kept on going LOL.

 

Through the internet I met & teamed up with Dixie Vornbrock a songwriter from Minnesota , we kinda hit it off almost instantly and started producing some darn good songs ( If I say so myself ) We met for the first time face to face in the summer of 2004 and married in Feb 2008 and still produce sweet music together and will for the forseeable future . Some of those songs are featured here so go ahead and listen thats why we write them. Hope you enjoy our musings !!!!

As the Christmas season draws ever nearer and thoughts turn to things you can get for stocking fillers and such, why not give yourself a pressie (just a tiny one) if you like me are an afictionado of Country Music (despite the name of this blog LOL ) you could do a lot worse than download a copy of Mr Ed Bentleys awesomely thought provoking track ” Who Was That Old Man ” . I don’t usually rave about a song much but on hearing this one I’ll admit it did make me think. It’s not overtly Country but has an appealing laid back quality to it that keeps you listening musically it’s sound nice haunting guitar ever present in the background but its just that in the background not in your face , where the song really shines is in the lyrics . Here Mr Bentley captures a moment in time perfectly painting a picture so vividly with words that in your minds eye you see the scenes perfectly clearly. That and Ed’s deep almost spoken vocal draws the listener in to want to hear more.

 

The track is available as a HQ mp3 download at the very affordable price of only 99 cents. on the download page you can also watch a stunning video presentation of the track prepared by Dixie McCorkell of Triplestrand Productions MN USA , the video is embeddable from U-Tube so if you like it grab it unfortunately the audio track on the video is in mono only so to get the full stereo version I advise purchasing the track.

Will you see the candles burn on Christmas Eve? They burn as a sign to those who do and don’t believe.

A special baby was born on that night, under a star that shone so very bright. He was a gift given to all humankind from our God above. A gift given to us out of HIS love. A greater gift than this we will never receive, and it’s our for FREE if we will only believe.

The candles glow for ALL to see, as a reminder to you and me, that Christmas is all about Eternal Life, Peace and Love, all about that gift
from our God above.

The message is so simple, yet for some so hard to grasp, for the world get in their way, they don’t even take time to ask. Why do I celebrate at this time of year, what is my reason to be of good cheer?

The candles burned brightly that special night as a sign to all of God’s Eternal Light.

The next time you stop just a minute to pray, be thankful for the gift given to ALL on that special day.
