Derek White & The Monophobics.. Write the name down. You'll need to know it when they've taken over the world with their fantastic bubblegum psychedelia. It all started as a Derek White's solo, recording project. Then morphed into a band in the early fall of 2007 in order to play shows. Derek White is Another one of those singer/songwriters that fall into the void left by Harry Nilsson, Gilbert O'Sullivan and Emmit Rhodes, with sugary rushes in the chorus and wry winks over the piano in the verses. The D.W. & Monophobic's sound is like a wonderful romp through the mind of Brian Wilson (circa '65) whilst holding Elliot Smith's hand. All the Beatle trademarks are there...
the descending chords and falsettos... and it's marvellous.
Songs like 'We Can Slide' & 'Informal Threnodies' goes deeper into the pop well, with million part haromies and an impressive squeal in the chorus that is equal parts Prince and something from Wild Honey. Their music has caught the attention of the brilliant Andy Partridge of XTC, and Multi-Platinum, Award Winning (San Francisco) Producer Scott Mathews. Despite the interest they received.. Derek White & guitarist Jon Gunnell decided to Record & Produce their debut album entirely themselves!
