On July 15th, Yoshi's Oakland welcomes from Xalapa, Mexico, Son De Madera. Founded in 1992 and endowed with an enormous talent for musical arrangements and tradition research, Son de Madera represents the leading success in the current Son Jarocho movement (a musical and dance genre from Veracruz, Mexico). Son de Madera's main objective is the diffusion of the Son Jarocho based on the research of the traditional music and the incorporation of new sounds that enrich this music. Son Jarocho a style itself, that blends spanish, indian and african influences.
The Calgary Herald says “…the outdoor Mexican party had a few in the flanks trying to imitate her seemingly effortless, sensual moves. As The group's set progressed, the melodies became faster and more frantic, as did the dancing..." Recommended for fans of the Gypsy Kings and Rodrigo Y Gabriella.
