Derrick Barnett is known throughout the music world as a reggae bassist extraordinaire. His esoteric skills on bass brought a new dimension to popular reggae music especially in the dance-hall arena. The Jamaican born founder and namesake of the legendary Sagittarius Band, Derrick is most noted for his formidable bass playing and production during the 80s , 90s. and into the 2000's.
Even whilst touring worldwide with Yellowman, Ziggy & Melodymakers and Toots Hibbert, Mr. Barnett was also the production wizard behind many hits for other reggae legends such as Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond, Black Uhuru,Cocoa tea,Freddie Mcgreggor, Pinchers, Tiger, Ad, Bailey, Lt.Stichie, Ninjaman, Ladysaw, Mikeyspice, Louciano, RichieStevens, Bujubanton, Jackradics, Waynewonder, Kymani Marley, Patra, Cobra, and Sanchez, [to name a few] as well as running New Name Musik with partner Castro Brown .
