Derrick G. Jackson
General Info
Genre:
Black / Comic HypnotistBio
Derrick Jackson is not your typical black comic…or your typical gay comic...or your typical postal worker comic. His comedy is deeply personal, brutally funny, and completely authentic. Offbeat stories from his life contain unexpected undercurrents of social commentary, and no story ever goes where you think it will. His perfect combination of wry wit and likeability has won over audiences from coast to coast. Growing up on the mean streets of Inglewood, CA, Derrick didn’t set out to be a comedian. He fell into it. After studying with veteran actress Barbara Tarbuck, Derrick began acting on the stage, and discovered a surprising gift for comedy. This inspired him to take Greg Dean’s comedy class, where he honed his comedic voice. Derrick has gone on to win The Ultimate Laugh Down, Uncle Clyde’s Comedy Contest and The Superbowl of Comedy. Derrick has performed at the Hollywood Improv, the Ontario Improv, the Ice House Main Room, the Comedy Store Main Room, the Laugh Factory, the Comedy Cellar in New York City, the University of Southern California, the Ha Ha Café, Martini Blues, private parties and benefits for the American Cancer Society, Pasadena Youth Center and Aids Life Cycle. Derrick is a regular performer for StandUp Productions. Derrick Jackson counts among his influences Bill Cosby, Ellen DeGeneres, Gene Wilder, Woody Allen and Chris Rock. He continues to develop his inimitable style of comedic storytelling. If you get a chance to catch Derrick Jackson, don’t miss it!
