¡Descarga! is a monthly Afro-Latin music gathering for the people. This event is an alternative to the commercial salsa nights that have dominated the LA scene for years and pays homage to the African-Latino connection, through classic and urban world beats.
When the alternative salsa night began five years ago with DJ’s Dusk, Sloe Poke and Loslito, ¡Descarga! was about digging in the crates for the rarest salsa cuts and the funkiest Latin 60’s and 70’s sounds, in a club that would cater to L.A.‘s indie underground music scene. Today, the venue has changed, but the spirit of the night is still beating strong.
Resident DJs Sloe Poke, Mando, Bobby Soul, Loslito and Mexican Dubwiser spin classic salsa, cumbia, merengue, Latin hip hop, reggaeton, mashups, Brazilian and deep house grooves. With live bands gracing the stage at midnight at nearly every show, it has become the taste-making New York to L.A. soiree, running over 5 years strong.
The event is Executive Produced by Jennifer Cuevas and Loslito, in loving memory of DJ Dusk.

We're happy to share that we were named “Best Club Night” in the “Best of Latino L.A.” issue of Tu Ciudad Magazine. As printed in June/July 2008 issue: "On the 2nd Saturday of every month, the Echoplex is taken over by Descarga, which features some of L.A.'s top Latino bands and Djs. Show up prepared to dance."

Mentiritas is a musical project lead by Grammy® Award Winning Musician, Wil-Dog Abers, that combines cohorts (who happen to be some of L.A.‘s top session musicians) from bands such as Beastie Boys, Plastilina Mosh, Cava and more! Mentiritas keeps the crowd on its feet from start to finish and pokes fun at 80‘s and 90‘s hits, the “boy band” experience and gaudy Mexican Regional fashions and sometimes over-the-top banda music.
In January 2008, ¡Descarga! featured the Mentiritas first at its sold out 5th Anniversary Party at Echoplex. The band now includes the Vocals of Claudia “Cava” Tenorio; and on July 12, 2008, the show will include special appearances by Herbert Siguenza (Culture Clash) and Ric Salinas (Culture Clash), aka "The Durango Brothers".

The story of Mentiritas starts like this...
The Durango Bros. were born in the small village of Basico in the state of Durango, Mexico. They are the great great grandchildren of Durango born, Pancho Villa. Durango is famous for its scorpions (los alacranes). The Durango Bros. consider scorpions a delicacy, right up there with tacos de cesos (brains) and lengua (tongue). They drive Ford and Durango monster trucks complete with naked woman mudflaps and scorpion decals on the windows. They love going to the beach in only their cowboy boots, hats and speedos. They are members of the C.I.A.(California Illegal Aliens). They insist they never swam across the Rio Grande--they in fact "riverdanced".

The Durango Bros. are Mentiritas' managers. It turns out that the Durango Brother's mama, Doña Flora, used to take care of Mentiritas' bass player, "Perron", when he was in diapers. She was a surrogate mother to him. She raised him and watched him grow up and in Mentiritas at the ripe age of 16. Mentiritas became the hottest boy band in all of Chula Vista! But as with any boy band, they grew up and couldn't make it as a man band. But The Durango Bros. brought back Mentiritas back from the dead! Yes, during a card game in Laughlin they won against Mentiritas' old manager, Wayne Newton. He thought he pulled on over the Durango Brothers but that didn't stop them from looking for all the members of Mentiritas, one by one. They were on a mission to reunite the awesomest, kick-ass, chingon, los mero-meros best boy band north of the Rio Grande!

"Anton 'Sin' Morales" (El commandante de mentiritas; aka "El Indio Loco")
"Perron" (El 'mero mero' of the bass y pinches gritos; le gusta a hechar pedasos grandes, luego butter cupping them for all to smell)
"Ulassas" (El chingon de la campana...cause he lives in the city of Bell)
"Walnutz" (El rey de los keyboards...calling the shots from the monte-ghetto mall to west covina)
"Cava" (La reina del rancho; making paper is numero uno to this mujer!)
"Tripas" (El og narco-percussionist...if he's not banging on tambores or at the taco truck, he's passing out putazos)

Loslito is one of the Founder’s of Descarga, a monthly underground salsa night that he created alongside DJ’s Sloe Poke and legendary DJ DUSK* in 2002. An avid collector of classic 70’s salsa records, Loslito, spins Fania classics and serves up some salsa rarities for the crowd. He also accredited for Co-Founding the legendary underground hip-hop night, The Root Down (Little Temple) and the monthly soul-funk night, “Bounce, Rock, Skate”. In addition, he’s the brainchild behind L.A.-based soul band, The Rebirth.
Sloe Poke is an all-around, party rockin' DJ and is one of the Founders of this east side underground salsa night. At Descarga, he's known for dropping the classic salsa sounds, some contagious Colombian cumbias, roots-reggae, reggaeton, merengue and the classic 80s Latin freestyle hits. He's also the Co-Founder of Sonido Sundays and spins all over Southern Cali weekly.
Bobby Soul is Mr. Boogaloo! He’ll drop those rare salsa cuts, some cool cumbias and that classic boogaloo that will get ya’ll dancin’! Rare Latin soul and funk cuts are his specialty. He’s the voice behind O.C. based-band, Soul Hustlers, performs in a the salsa group Boogaloo Assassins and is responsible for bringing some of the region’s best groups to his Tuesday-night-spot “Behind the Orange Curtain” at Fullerton’s Continental Room.
Mando holds it down with his funky Brazilian, Latin and soulful house mixes. He's one of L.A.'s best-kept secrets...but not for long! Check out his new online radio show "A Deeper Soul" on BigShowRadioLA.com.
Mexican Dubwiser hails from Monterrey, Mexico and is the cumbia mashup extraordinaire. His all-digital, live mixes coalesce American hip hop and rock with Latin American cumbias that keep the crowd pumped. He is also the Co-Producer of two popular late-night parties, "Chicle" and "Dubwise Sessions".
