From the moment Descartes Ekman steps onto the stage, you might think
you are at the wrong concert. Dressed like an indie rock band member,
he floats in and out of a modern daydream, musically discussing his
fixings on life, love and what equals a human relationship.
Well before his debut release “Return To Sender”, Descartes Ekman reached
2nd most downloaded artist on the mp3.com.au artists charts under the
category of hip-hop for his free downloadable record, "Modified Opera" in
late 2004. "Modified Opera" reached the 2nd most downloaded record of
the hip-hop category within 2 weeks of its release. This launched Mr Ekman to the #1 most downloaded artist in the hip-hop catagory on mp3.com.au. Descartes has appeared in Bizoo Magazine twice - once with the review of his first free downloadable record "Stolen Characteristics", and a second time with a detailed interview. He later went on to do shows with varing styles of artists, from the heavy rock band Mouthguard, to the Beatbox Alliance member Tom Thumb (who shares the duet beatboxing world title with Joel Turner). Experiencing the fanbase of these ranging artists styles has given Descartes Ekman a well rounded musical knowledge which created the original style of artist he is today. Descartes Ekman has also shared time with many bands. From international band Fear Factory to the homegrown band The Grates, and many other local indie bands such as Grand Atlantic, Teapot Dome Scandal, and Hunz. These experiences gave him the opportunity to share stories musical adventures from all musical genres, helping him understand the foundations of each bands
style of music.

Descartes Ekman is half of the group known as Black Apathy. Descartes handles the vocals, while the production is handled by a close friend, Waste
(www.myspace.com/wastedbeats). The debut cd from Black Apathy is
currently in the works, and is shaping up to be a very solid release.
