Schon Ende der 90er konnte sich die Londoner Band Descendants of Cain durch ihre Debut Performance zusammen mit Incubus Succubus im legendären Camden Underworld einen Namen machen. Von der zwischenzeitlich aufgebauten loyalen Fanbase ermutigt veröffentlichten sie kurz darauf ihr Debut Album "Atziluth" im Eigenvertrieb. Nach den darauf folgenden drei Alben und weiteren großartigen live Performances mit The Dammed und NFD präsentiert sich die Band in diesen Tagen mit einem frischen Lineup, neuem Label und einem starken fünften Album.

In "The Tao of Wisdom and Misery" hält Mastermind Darryl"D" Krueger der Menschheit einen Spiegel vor und beleuchtet die Dualismen der materiellen Welt. Die vermeintliche Weisheit der Menschen im Gegensatz zur Misere, als Folge. D rechnet mit der eigenen Spezies ab: It is the wisdom of this humanity to know no peace" oder you cannot buy your happiness with the blood of childrens screams". Die Vocals variieren hierbei von atmosphärisch elegisch bis aggressiv metallisch. Zusammen mit den um die Stimme gewebten Klangcollagen wird der Hörer mitgenommen auf eine magische Reise durch die hellen und dunklen Bereiche der menschlichen Seele.

Mit dem neuen Album gelingt es DoC ein weiteres Mal ein herausragendes Album zu produzieren, das so gar nicht in eine Schublade passt. Der einzigartige Mix aus atmosphärischen Goth Rock, treibenden Industrial Metal bis hin zu Ambient und Neo -klassischen Elementen steht für die musikalische Eigenständigkeit der Band. Die Lyrics sind nicht plakativ und nebulös sondern mutig und sprechen eine klare Sprache. So muss Gothic Rock heute klingen.

At the end of the 90s, the London Band Descendants of Cain made their mark with their first performance together with Incubus Succubus at the legendary Camden Underworld. Shortly after an increasing loyal fan base encouraged the band to release their debut album „Atziluth“ on their own followed by three additional albums and further fantastic live shows together with The Damned and NFD. Now the band present a fresh line-up, a new label and an awesome fifth album.

In “The Tao Of Wisdom And Misery“, mastermind Darryl “D“ Kruger holds a mirror up to mankind and points out the dualisms of the material world. The supposed wisdom of humanity in contrast to misery as a result. “D“ gets even with his own species: “It is the wisdom of this humanity to know no peace." or “You cannot buy your happiness with the blood of children’s screams". The vocals vary from ambient elegiac to aggressive metallic. Sound collages weaved around the voice take the listener on a magic trip through the bright and dark realms of the human soul.

And again, DoC have produced an outstanding new album which doesn’t fit into any pigeonhole at all. The unique mix of atmospheric Goth Rock, vibrant Industrial Metal to Ambient and neoclassic elements represents the band’s originality in their music. The lyrics are far from being blatant or nebulous, but brave and to the point. That’s the sound of modern Goth Rock.
