Welcome to Designs de Luna! My goal is to create and provide unique treasures for your stylistic needs. All of the jewelry pieces and accessories are handcrafted and one of a kind, along with most of our clothing and historic goods. And if you can't find something here that feels right for you, we also take custom orders.
The Owner:
Designs de Luna is a one woman show starring me, Amy Smock! Crafting is my passion. If I could craft all day long I would! But, for now I also work by day as a Molecular Biologist at UCSD. People always tell me that science and art are a weird combination of things to be passionate about, but I think it can all be explained by the fact that I am a very curious, hands-on kind of person. I love to know how things work (both in art and science) and I can't seem to sit still. I always need to be doing something with my hands. Whenever I see a new craft I just have to learn how to do it. This can be a very expensive addiction so I realized it was time to start selling some of my creations to fund my ‘habit.’
I often get asked where did I learn to do all of my crafts. Well, a combination of ways. For some, I read books, teach myself, and just jump in. Like with the fused glass, I just bought a used kiln one day and started learning how to do it. Many of my other crafts, like weaving, I learned through a group called the Society for Creative Anachronism., which is a medieval and renaissance recreation group. That has been a fun experience for me; you pick an historic name (mine is Liuete Liana de Luna), learn about how people back then lived and you recreate their daily lives. Obviously there were no machines or computers back then so people had to do everything by hand. There is something very satisfying about making something on your own (although I love computers too!).
I live in San Diego, CA with my boyfriend Trevor, our two cats Boo & Sophie, our two turtles Pantalones & Chewbacca, and one Beta Fish named Bob. My other hobbies include shopping, cooking, video games, reading, and anime.
