Despair Academy was founded in the summer of 2005 in Seinäjoki, a rural town in Western Finland. This was the place where Antti, Pertti, Markus and Toni began to make music that would combine their favourite parts of grunge and British/Finnish rock music. With three different style songwriters in the band, the music of Despair Academy covers a large section of rock music, from softer pop to harsher alternative sounds. This band does not want to be chained into one particular sound, but write as many kinds of songs as there are different feelings to be felt. The band has so far published one demo and an EP and played almost 30 gigs with many great bands and at various venues, big and small.
