It all started on Thanksgiving in 2007, when former Burn the Bodies members Thomas and Kevin Baxter (by an unintentional turn of events and influence) were joined by their brother Lee. Thus, Desperate Nature began.
With Thomas on guitar, Kevin on drums, and Lee on vocals, they needed a bassist to fill in the blanks. Kevin and Thomas got word of a bassist looking for a band. They quickly contacted him and set up an audition. They both agreed that Bobby Burkhead was the missing link, so he arrived at the scene as the Desperate Nature bassist.
After a bit of playing, a friend introduced them to a singer named Ben Holny. He blew the band away and they quickly realized that he was the perfect fit for Desperate Nature. The next day, the band unfortunately decided to release Lee from Desperate Nature and brought in Ben.
The band soon picked up pace and began writing new material. By June 2008, they were ready for their first show.
After almost a year of playing shows and writing, they decided they needed a rhythm guitarist. After hearing Bobby's cousin Brad Cain play the guitar, they knew he would fit in very well.
As the band went on, there was no doubt that there were problems building up between the band members, and they finally broke.
After a show in late May 2009, Bobby, Ben, and Brad decided to leave Desperate Nature to pursue other opportunities. So Kevin and Thomas needed to find replacements.
They both got word of a vocalist in town, so they decided to call and audition him. After auditioning several other candidates, they decided that Mike Roach would be the best for the band.
Now they just needed a new bassist. After no luck, Roach contacted his best friend Jef Girdler, better known as Twitch. He was an amazing fit for the Desperate Nature style.
At the same time, Kevin had gotten weary of the music and wasn't sure if he wanted to continue the lifestyle and career, thus he left the band for personal reasons. So that put Desperate Nature in a tough spot.
So Roach pulled a contact and reached a friend named Steven Kitchens, who was drumming for another local Memphis area band at the time. Steven had also decided beforehand that the touring lifestyle wasn't for him, but he agreed to play with Desperate Nature for a few shows as well as the debut EP, until Thomas, Roach, and Twitch could find a replacement for Kevin.
Desperate Nature played a few small shows until they came to terms with Steven that New Years Eve 2009/2010 would be Steven's last show with Desperate Nature.
Days later, after weeks of conversation and contemplation, it was decided that Kevin would return to his rightful place behind the drums. Permanently.
Time will tell what is in store for this band. But rest assured... It's gonna be big!!!
