| About Destroy |
THIS IS A FAN PAGE!
Destroy was a powerful Minneapolis Crust punk band. Destroy originally formed sometime in 1988, and broke up sometime in the spring of 1994.
Members of Destroy went on to play in the following bands: Code-13, Damage Deposit, Nigel Pepper Cock, Brainoil, Stormcrow, and Disrespect.
The Havoc Records story:
I got involved in the Washington DC Hardcore scene in 1983. I was always into music and as I got older got seriously into collecting records. My interest in collecting records drew me to the idea of starting a label of my own, at least to release stuff by bands I was in. It wasn't until after I was done with college in the early 90's that I was actually able to start putting out records on my own label. However, starting in 1988 I was involved with AYF records and distro, and Profane Existence Records, distro and magazine. I helped release the first two Misery 7"s, the Doom Police Bastard 7" as well as the Destroy Demo tape. I learned a lot about how to produce and distribute records in this period. Havoc Records began in 1992 as the vehicle to realize the "Burn this Racist System Down" 7" by Destroy, the band I sang for from 1988 to 1994. The next three releases were all bands that Destroy had played with on tour that I liked. The rest of the releases have been bands I heard or saw that I really liked. From the get go Havoc records has been about supporting and exposing aggressive, anti-authority, anti-society hardcore punk bands. Most of the releases have been 7"s by new bands. Only after 9 years did I decide to start doing LPs and then only to help bands that I have a really close relationship with. I work hard to keep the prices low so that the music and message are spread around as cheaply as possible, in fact the vinyl division of Havoc Records just about breaks even or loses money. I try to be as honest and fair as possible with the musicians and I interfere as little as possible with the musical and artistic expression of the bands. I have a lot of cool releases planned and I'm committed to keeping the back catalog in print as long as possible. I hope to keep releasing at least a few records a year far into the future and keep pressing up the old stuff as it sells out for as long as there seems to be some demand. Eventually a few of older releases will go out of print, but for now almost everything is still in stock. I throw the annual Thrash Fest here in Minneapolis and I travel with the bands as much as possible bringing the music to the people. . You will probably see me at a show sooner or later, selling records out of a box and checking out the bands. I'm just as crazy about hardcore punk music today as I was at my first show back in 1983. Havoc records is all about keeping this music alive on the underground so check out some of these bands and support your scene.
