   Des Walker's Blurbs
About me:
Hi! I'm Desmond Sinclair Walker, England's greatest central defender, but you can call me Des for short! Rising from my roots in Hackney, I signed as an apprentice for Nottingham Forest in 1982, which fortunately saved me from the draft board and almost certain death in the Falklands war (or the Malvinas liberation as Mr Clough insisted we called it!) where of course 3 million Argentinian naval officers were massacred by Mrs Thatcher's pillaging hordes, their bodies callously tossed to the ocean in mothballed submarines serving as makeshift coffins. Was I glad to escape that one! Instead, I focused on my football career, singlehandedly winning the League Cup in a 3-1 victory over Luton at the end of the decade. Soon I was playing well enough to attract the attention of Mr Robert 'Bobby' Robson of England management fame, winning my first cap following the tragic death of Tony Adams CBE early in the second half of a friendly match against Denmark, in 1989. I was, of course, one of the first names (actually, probably THE first name) on the squad list for the World Cup in Italy of 1990 fame, impressing the locals so much that after my tour of duty in the Gulf conflict (where I was a member of the famous 'Bravo Two Zero' mission) and of course my court-martial and subsequent period of incarceration in the infamous 'Glasshouse', I had the fortune to follow in Sir Luther Blisset's footsteps and became one of many successful British exports to Italian clubs when I joined Sampdoria for £1 500 000. In fact, I was so successful there that just a year later, Sheffield Wednesday had the good judgement to pay almost double that to bring me back to England. After a long (more than 300 games!) period playing for the mighty 'Owlers', I was approached with the offer of a lifetime: Rejoin my old chum Nigel Clough, now managing one of the sleeping giants of English football: Burton Albion. And after the headiness and pleasure of raising 'the Albion' to their rightful place among Europe's elite, I simply couldn't turn down my old paymasters Nottingham Forest when they asked me to rejoin them and bring back the glory days and passion. In return, they treated me to a testimonial match. Sadly, I pissed the money away that same night, spending an evening, as they say, 'at Her Majesty's pleasure'. Currently, I'm working on several projects, not least my biography of Garibaldi, 'The Great Unifier', currently weighing in at 20 volumes! The best part is, I still haven't found a publisher so I've a free choice in that respect! Thank you everyone! I am currently unemployed.
