We are the Detectives of Perspective, a group of DJs, musicians, artists and super sleuths who have united to form a like-minded collective. We have been staging events in and around Bristol since 2001. We host Ninja Tune's bi-monthly Solid Steel club night at Timbuk2 and have been responsible for bringing some of the world's greatest DJs and performers to Bristol. We have played host to the likes of DJ Shadow, DJ Food, Cut Chemist, Bonobo, Steinski and DJ Kentaro as well as supporting some of the finest up and coming local talent.
Venue magazine awarded us their 'Club Night of the Year' in 2006 after we pulled off some of our most high profile gigs to date. 2007 saw the Detectives take on a whole host of major UK festivals and yet more Solid Steel mixtapes were broadcast. 2008 has stepped up yet again... Mini detectives arrived, Cheeba got taken on by Ninja Tune to become a fully fledged and official Solid Steel DJ, apperances on the stages of UK festivals went from big to HUGE (as well as silent at times) and to top it off we thought it would be a good idea to put Coldcut and Roots Manuva on the same bill.... on a boat!
Detectives of Perspective is a non profit organisation where all money raised either filters back into the development of the collective, or is donated to local, national and international charities.
Our aim is to provide a channel for up-and-coming talent and a platform for established artists by putting on some of the best parties you are likely to attend in Bristol!
We are always looking for new talent, if you feel you have something to offer, please get in contact.
Here are just some of the guests we have had over the years...

THE DIARY Volume 1.5 (20 Years of the Remix) now available for free download at WWW.MUSICOFSUBSTANCE.COM!
“This CD just shows how much Chris Read knows about historic Hip Hop production techniques - Its just a shame he wasn't creating this stuff during the eras he's covering as we would probably rate the man as being up there with Paul C, Pete Rock, Premier and all! - I can't think of another Hip Hop CD I've played so much in years” (ANDY SMITH - PORTISHEAD)
"Chris continues the rap anthology concept of his super-dope 'The Diary' megamix in the shape of a remix project, re-lacing acapellas from 89-2009 with historically accurate beats. 'The Diary 1.5' serves as a great platform for Chris to showcase his ample beat-making skills whilst referencing those who've inspired him." (DJ WOODY - FORMER WORLD ITF CHAMPION)
“Wicked! The perfect companion to The Diary Mixtape. Shows an impressive knowledge of sounds from all eras.” (MR THING - FORMER WORLD DMC CHAMPION)
"Crazy! This is Rap History in the making. Chris proves his production skills on this one to the fullest. A wonderful and refreshing journey through all eras of hip hop. Double thumbs up!" (MARC HYPE - FORMER ITF CHAMPION)
