Detest was formed in 1988 with members sprung out of band Coma. Detest was mainly a garageband and only played live once in 1990 at Skövde Stadsteater.
First lineup: Micke Därth (guitar/vocals), Ermin Mujnovic (leadguitar), Jörgen Svahn (bass), Niklas Landin (drums).
Detest recorded a self-produced EP, "Thundersteel", in 1990, which was co-produced by Stefan Johansson and recorded at Studio Hönshuset. Not long ago a review was posted at The Corroseum.

Comment: This was our first demo containing of three new written tracks and one oldie, 'Shadow of a man' (from the Hellrats-days). First time in a studio for all the guys except Niklas who had done previous recordings. Recorded at Studio Hönshuset, engineered by Stefan Johansson.
Comment: Ermin left Detest to work with long time friend Mika Korpi (Cosmic Zoo). We recorded one new song, 'The meaning of pain', and the other four tracks were written during the Coma-days). We hired Yngve Frank which rehearsed with us a couple of times. Since he had such a special sound in his guitar-gear we decided he should do the second rhythm-guitar as well as the leads which worked out perfect for us. Comment: Ermin was back doing the guitar again and we recorded all new material, now with contributions from Jörgen Svahn as songwriter. Niklas had left the band, so I (Micke) did the drums as well on this demo. Though, to make the double kick-drum work we hired old friend from Hellrats & Coma, Henrik Johansson, to participate on two tracks needing double kick-drum. Recorded at Studio Hönshuset, engineered by Stefan Johansson.
Comment: Ermin left again and Detest was put on hold for a while. I joined Ermin & Mika for a gig as leadsinger but then I returned to Detest, but it was only Jörgen and me left as steady members. We hired Fredrik Sköld as a drummer and started to write new material, but Fredrik quit the band and so there we were left with no drummer again. We had scheduled time in the studio as well, and when we talked to engineer Stefan about it he suggested we could use programmed drums, and since we at this stage used the studio only to check our material - what was good and what wasn't - we took him up on the idea. We considered that the studiotime would be less than expected with only me and Jörgen in there as well. Not very good at playing drums on a keyboard (eeerghhh) we ended up with a pretty decent result anyhow, though we to this day have a hard time listening to them synthetic drums... which were not even sampled ones... Since we found lots of more time in the studio we re-recorded some of the stuff we recorded earlier just for the hell of it, and don't ask me why. We hired my brother, Tomas G:son and Yngve Frank as leadguitarists and they did a great job for us. Recorded at Studio Hönshuset, engineered by Stefan Johansson.
Comment: Niklas returned to the band and we hired former Trace-guitarist Janne Johansson (nowadays Janne Ström, SLUG) and now we really felt we had a group of people wanting to do the same thing musically. Therefor me and Jörgen chose the best old songs for the Thundersteel-demo to mix with the new material to be able to hear the new, raw Detest-sound. After rehearsing the old and new material we decided to make an EP. Recorded at Studio Hönshuset, engineered by Stefan Johansson.
Comment: This is the last recording Detest made. Recorded at Studio Hönshuset, engineered by Stefan Johansson. In the summer of 1991 I met with Finn Zierler and Twilight was born. Soon after, the members of Detest was included in the first Twilight rehearsals going on recording it's first demo "The edge".
