The Sirens are a glam rock band from Detroit, mutherfucker. We put the ho' in homemade.
Our mission is to rock you.
More is More! That's our motto. More glam! More guitar! More glitter! More Mutherfucker, More!
If you walked into a seedy drag bar and found The Sweet, the Shangri-Las and Slade all on stage together, drinking heavily, they would sound something like The Sirens.
This Detroit-bred and based group formed in 2000 and subsequently released three 7-inch EP's on France’s Wiped-Out Records, and one full length release on Pittsburgh’s Get Hip label. The band has been produced by both the illustrious Jim Diamond as well as Flaming Lips bassist Michael Ivins. So firmly entrenched in their city are the Sirens that the band didn’t play outside the 313 area code until well into their fourth year of existence. And yet, to quote Sirens leader Muffy Kroha, “we were getting buttloads of fan mail from Europe before we had ever even played north of 8 mile.” The band’s “buttload” of European fans were graced with the Sirens in the Spring of 2005 for a 16-date tour of France, with many dates supporting Nashville Pussy and the Bellrays. The Sirens returned to Europe in the Spring of 2006 with a 15-date tour of Serbia, boldly going many places where no American Band had gone before- and those were just the bathrooms!
Presently, the Sirens are lacing up their corsets and codpieces in preparation for their most excessive and glittery album to date. “More is More” is set for release in February 2007 on Burbank’s MuSick Records.
“More is More” isn't just the name of the Sirens’ new album. It has been the band’s credo from the beginning. At one time the band even included three guitar players. While opening for Ronnie Spector in Detroit in 2003, lead singer Muffy donned platform boots that were an astonishing 18 inches tall, and even more astonishingly she didn't fall! For a band that has been around for six years, the line up changes have been surprisingly infrequent. Throughout the years the Sirens have included members Detroit’s rock elite including the Dirtbombs, Gore Gore Girls, Come Ons,The Buzzards, Outrageous Cherry, The Paybacks and Ghost City. But it’s the Sirens’ unconscionable (and sometimes controversial) taste in music and fashion that has made them an impossible-to-ignore addition to Detroit’s storied rock community.
