Developing Independent Artists (DIA) aims to redirect focus from athletics to the arts, placing art on the trophy shelf where it belongs. The goal is for club members to work together to promote one another’s work, keeping in mind that in order to make things happen one must be proactive instead of waiting around for the next big break. Developing as an independent artist is only possible if one learns to network with other artists effectively. As a new club, our first mission was to professionally manufacture a compact disc featuring Saugus High School talent. In December of 2004, we held our first fundraiser concert. Seven Saugus High School bands performed at the event, and DIA managed to raise sufficient funds for the compact disc. With the money, we were able to master the disc at Capitol Records in Los Angeles, and we pressed 1000 copies thanks to Happi Skratch Records in Denver, Colorado. Eleven Saugus High School bands/artists contributed tracks to “DIA Volume I,” which was released in May of 2005. During the 2005/2006 school year DIA had legit merchandise and a very solid second DIA CD, entitled DIA Round II. As the years go on our progress has become quite noticable.
