They're having way more fun than doing school-work or playing video games
What started out as a family's love for bluegrass has now taken off into an all out passion. Dewgrass, made up of siblings, Jake, Luke and Kaiti play straight ahead bluegrass and gospel in a manner that suprises many and delights most who have had an opportunity to hear them. "If this is the next generation of bluegrass, we're in good hands." -TNT

Jake's all consuming desire to excel at the guitar (and we do mean ALL CONSUMING) continually raises the quality bar for the band. His love for playing is evident in his "blistering' attack on his breaks, but also when he brings it down a notch to play quiet and introspectively. His main problem is that even at the relatively young age of 16 he says he is already afflicted with a bad case of "GAS" (guitar acquisition syndrome) When your guitar taste(s) lean towards the Martin/Collings range, this can potentially be a finacially challenging hurdle to overcome. Recently, he traded in his old Martin for a new Collings D-1, which he'll be playing over the festival season. Although his guitar is his first love, you just might see him pick up the mandolin, banjo, bass etc which he can also rip into when given the chance. (we thank God that his musical preferences lean heavily to the acoustic NOT electric side of the fence...)
Hobbies: Hiking/backpacking in those unreachable, untouched, un-walked upon trails; baseball; Boy Scouts; eating
Favorite food: Yes!

You'll usually see Luke out in front as the "Dewgrass Sparkplug". You can probably credit much of his siblings' drive to play from his initial desire when he was 7 years old. At that age, he wanted to play the guitar, but his hands were too small to get around the neck. Starting out with a Nechville banjovi, we learned that he could "really pick that thang..." He then moved on to a Deering open back (which you may still see him carrying around to get autographs of his banjo heros.) In the Winter of '05, however, he was blessed beyond belief when a friend and the good people at Ome Banjos picked up on the young banjoslinger, (as he likes to call himself) and sponsored him with his beautiful "Ome Gold Phoenix "("the best banjo ever"..) Luke has had the opportunity to meet, play for, and be instructed by many of today's top players. His skill has been said to far exceed his years (and he sings pretty well too...)
Other Interest: Boy Scouts, baseball, animals, hiking, astronomy, building things
Favorite food: Pizza

Kaiti is the driving force behind Dewgrass's "giggle factor". She discovered several years ago that not only is playing the mandolin fun, it's what she feels she is meant to do (as much as you can by age 13) She says she sometimes still gets nervous before she performs, but you would never know it, even when having the opportunity, at one show, to play for over 5,000 people. "The Metronome" as she has been dubbed by some other bands, Kaiti shows unusual poise, sings beautiful lead and vocal harmonies, plays more and more leads on her Eastman Mandolin, is the keeper of time with her hard driving mando chop, and exudes pure joy whenever she plays.
Favorite Song Dewgrass Performs: "Dejavu" and "The Way I See It"
Favorite Ice Cream: Mint chip
Other interests besides mandolin: drawing, writing, exploring in our woods, backpacking and snowshoing (when in season) playing fetch with my dog...and oh yeah, dolls.

The love for the music started in the womb, as Gary would play his banjo up to a pregnant Erin's tummy. "It was so they'd get used to it from the start, and I wouldn't have to worry about waking them up when I was playing." It looks like it took... Erin plays a great stand-up bass and (which, if you play one, you know is hard to haul around..) and triples up on harmony vocals while Gary holds up the rhythm guitar and occasional harmonica duties.
