Sounds LikeThere really is no way to compare our music to anything or anyone else's, we have a unique writing style that has hints of this and that, but doesn't really sound like anything out there. Therefore we sound like Dewpoint. Besides putting labels to a band is what sell outs do, and since we write 10 minute songs, the idea of selling out isn't one in our future. Below, you'll find what last.fm thinks we sound like:

   About Dewpoint

Dewpoint is a Christian Progressive Death Metal band formed in 1997 in Deming, New Mexico by John J. Being a Christian and a big fan of Progressive and Death Metal bands like Paradise Lost, Opeth, Dream Theater, Carcass and My Dying Bride and seeing the utter lack of Christian based bands in the genres decided that it would be appropriate to get a group off the ground that is Aggressive and Experimental as well as Unique and Thought provoking. Jon and his Cousin Tim "Sspitt" Edwards began writing songs together and setting the groundwork for what is rapidly becoming one of the most influential and fresh sounds in Death Metal music. With songs averaging 10 minutes in length, there is a lot of room for experimentation and development in the overall sonic journey each song takes it's listener on. With their first album, Severe Thunderstorm Warning, Jon has used his unique talent and unhealthy interest in meteorological phenomenon and crafted songs that both explore the consequences of failure in one's life to the subsequent grace that is always waiting to lift one up from beneath the mire of life's unending beatings.
In late 2002 things began to look bleak for Dewpoint, as close friend and drummer Brian Farris moved from New Mexico to California and Tim chose to return to school to become an X-Ray Technician and Jon moved to Utah. Jon took a break from song writing for a time, and spent time with his family and develop a new outlook on his music, as he was not really satisfied with where his talents were taking the overall sound. Late in 2005 Jon began playing again and recorded a few tracks and made them available on the internet and received good reviews on each track, and decided to get Dewpoint back off the ground and a new flow of songwriting began. With up til March 2008 some 50 new songs written and the addition of a Second Guitarist and Keyboard Player, Mike Zauner and Drummer, Nich Sibson, have recorded some demos receiving mixed but generally positive reviews, the band plans to finish Severe Thunderstorm Warning, and with enough songs to begin work on a second album, get busy on the new sound and progression the music has taken as well. Severe Thunderstorm Warning is a collection of the songs Jon wrote from the foundation of Dewpoint in 1997 until Late 2006. Tracks such as Subsequence, Dead, and Reflections show the vast diversity of songwriting and angst felt during the time each on was written. And tracks such as the epic Enlightened Perception which clocks in at 30 minutes, as well as the flesh shredding, Punched in the Face and Sadie bring forth the diverse influences the band shares, mixing in wanton destruction and shear brutality with exquisite beauty and ethereal effects to create a unique and memorable sound.
The name Dewpoint came as an epiphany to Jon, who is an avid Weather Channel fan. The higher the dew point in a given area, the more likely the weather will turn bad, Tornadoes, Hail storms, etc, as well as making the air feel sticky and uncomfortable. Jon thought the name would be fitting for a Metal band as the Dewpoint can make it either uncomfortable and miserable or make a cool day feel better.

Lead and Acoustic Guitars, Lead Vocals: John J
Born 1972 in California, USA, Jon was raised on a steady diet of Guitar based Music. Finding his first Ozzy Cassette, with Randy Rhodes playing on it, sealed Jon's fate to be one of the few Progressive influenced metal players, the likes of James Hetfield, James Murphy, John Petrucci, Dave Mustaine, Chuck Schuldiner, Dimebag Darrell, and of course Bill Steer, Michael Amott and later Chris Amott, the gates were left wide open. After a misguided move to a small town in New Mexico, in 1992, Jon found himself in a couple of bands, that weren't very motivated, so he concentrated his efforts in perfecting his unique style and getting the most important factor in his life together, he became a Christian. Fast Forward to 2004. Jon finally made it out of New Mexico, finding himself in Utah, with a fat internet connection, and a new inspiration. Thus Dewpoint was born. Taking from his vast pool of influences, his unhealthy interest in weather and his well known sense of natural psychosis, Jon began recording tracks in his bedroom, using an old PC to record on beginning in April of 2005, with a high fanfare. As of December 2006, Jon feels he has finished writing the initial music for the first album, Severe Thunderstorm Warning and is nearly ready to begin looking for new members to join Dewpoint and finish the tracks. But the inspiration and not stopped there.... New ideas and material have been flowing from within and Jon has begun work on a second album that is already proving itself to be even more mature and showing signs of an evolving melodic sense of writing. This could be huge..

Lead and Acoustic Guitars and Synths/Programming: Mike Zauner
Born 1985, Mike got his first taste of music in the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival and others in the form of his parents LPs and cassettes. Mike enjoys a large range of music, from the above mentioned classic rock bands to metal, all the way to classical, and incorporates elements of many different styles in his playing. Everything got started when he found his mother's old acoustic guitar, and 8 years later, is still playing guitar. After being in and out of a number of different bands that either fell apart quickly or just didn't have the motivation to play anywhere, Mike branched out into other forms of music, and other instruments, namely the synthesizer. Starting off with a 15" PowerBook and GarageBand, Mike started recording ideas in 2004, and has since added a Mac Pro to his recording gear using Logic Express and GarageBand. Mike considers himself a jack of all trades, experimenting not only with a wide range of music, but also with photography, graphic design, videography, software design, and many other trades and jobs.

Drums and Various other forms of Percussion: Nich Sibson
Born and raised in Utah, Nich has always been an avid fan and participator of the gigantic world of music. Whether it’s playing drums at the church he and John go to, picking around on guitar with his friend Jayce or having headphones in his ears, he loves music. He started playing drums around 7 or 8 when his uncle taught him a few lessons. After the few lessons his uncle gave him he taught himself the way of the drum. “I’m excited about Dewpoint, quotes Nich, this my first metal band I’ve been in. Gee, I hope I don’t suck.” Along with music Nich works at a coffee shop and is a on-call land surveyor with the company his dad works for. His favorite bands at the moment are He Is Legend, Project 86, mewithoutYou and Despised Icon.

Yeah, I never think about going to the cage at the right times, it's always a random spurt of memory juice that says, "Hey, I haven't talked to my panhead buds in a while!" =D
But anyways...I've been great, things are going incredibly well as of right now.
