Our influences are pretty simple. If it sounds good and its fun to play it doesn't matter who the artist is.
Sounds Like
What we sound like...hmmm...Well, to sum it up in a few short words....... If fun , exciting , and quality entertainment had a sound , thats what we sound like. But be your own judge and check us out!
Nate Cremeans is from Martin, Michigan but now lives south of there
in Portage. Coming from a family filled with musical talent and
country roots he couldn’t wait till his hands were big enough to
wrap around a guitar at the ripe old age of nine and make a “G chord”.
Not only is he the founder of Dewsouth, he is also known as their
fearless leader. He started the band 12 years ago and has poured
his heart and soul into it from day one. Nate, with his rhythm guitar,
seasoned vocals and energetic stage presence brings to the audience
an exciting edge of your seat performance. Nate also contributes
by handling the band schedule, writing and arranging of original
songs, advertising, and public Relations.
Shapel Originally from Battle Creek, Michigan but now hails from Grand Rapids has been seasoning her voice for the last 20 years, starting off in church and for the past four years touring the local band scene here in Michigan. The vocal spice and entertainment value that Shapel has brought to Dewsouth is second to none. “I think life should be one big concert” says Shapel. You will know that’s true after spending anytime with her on or off the stage. As far as influences Shapel pulls her vocal style from all music that is good, her favorites coming out of the music capital of the world. Although she hasn’t been there in 5 years she says, “I see it in my sleep every night!”
Jimmy Comes from Lansing, Michigan, and has been playing drums
since he was just a little guy at 5 years old. He enjoys all kinds
of music throughout his travels from classic rock to classic country.
“Live crowds make the party and rockin country keeps it goin!” says
Jimmy. He Brings a whole new level of rhythm and entertainment. So look for Jimmy standin on top of his drums, waving to the fans. He is looking forward
to seeing old faces, new faces, as well as the current Dewsouth fan
base. He’s has met a few and can't wait to meet the rest.
Kent, Originally from the Jackson, Michigan area, now lives in Rockford, Michigan. He started playing guitar when He was 5 years old, But didn’t take it to this level til around 18. Taught himselfself some basic chords, bought his first electric guitar, and with a couple years of hard work, dedication, and long hours of practicing, found himself playing in a hard rock band while attending college at Western Michigan University. After college, Kent joined his first country band, Yankee Blue. He spent close to three years in Yankee Blue before joining Branded, who he played with for close to 10 years. While in Branded, Kent got the opportunity to play some incredible shows, including B93's Birthday Bash in 2006, and open for dozens of national acts, like Montgomery Gentry, Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, and Little Big Town, just to name a few. “ I am excited to now be a part of Dewsouth, and looking forward to what the future may bring!” Says Kent.
Influences: Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Thorogood, Tom Keiffer, Cinderella, Ted Nugent, Kirk Hammett Metallica, Pete Anderson, and Dwight Yoakam.

Tim has been playing bass since well…… the wheel! The last three years
venturing in the rock scene Jamin all over Michigan. Tim lives in
what he likes to call, L.A. (Lansing), though he is originally a Haslett
Michigan native. Just because Tim's background is rock and roll, doesn’t
mean he’s not country, considering he was the bass player for Dewsouth
for about 4 years back in the late 90's and early 00's. Tim has spent
a couple of years "on the road" opening for such artists as Earl Scruggs,
Eddie Rabbit, T.G. Sheppard and Roy Orbison to name a few. Why come
back to country you ask, Tim says, “There are no fans like Dewsouth
fans and I am back for more!” Plus getting to reunite with people
he met back in his Dewsouth days is something he’s really looking
forward to.
Susan, former Dewsouth member has returned! With a background in only classical music, when Susan met Larry Williams from the Williams family after college, she couldn't wait to experiment first with bluegrass music, and next with whatever music she could try to play with! For the past several years Susan has played in several bands: bluegrass, jazz and country. She has played with Grand Rapids Symphony for 15 years and has been in Branded for 4 1/2 years. At home she has 4 beautiful daughters and is happy to fill her life with lots of family time and lots of great music. She is really excited to be back playing with Dewsouth.
Randy Caswell also from Martin, Michigan is a long time friend of
Nate’s clear back from grade school. Randy is Dewsouth’s Stage manager
and Jack of all trades, taking care of everything that falls through
the cracks.
Darrell Miner comes from Martin, Michigan and was brought on by the
band to do Stage arrangement and light production. Darrell does a
great job putting on a light show that you won’t forget. With a good
sense of rhythm and a vast knowledge for light design he turns the
show into a production.
Grant Frielink (West Michigan Audio Visual of Grandville, Mi.), John
Huff, and Jack Dastley (United Rental of Portage, Mi.), are the sound
Gurus’ of Dewsouth. They bring top the line gear like Midas, EV, Crown,
and more. With 60 plus combined years of experience they turn any
show into a concert.
Dewsouth is not only one of the best musically seasoned bands around,
but hands down one of the most entertaining. So, if we perform at
your venue, be sure to buckle in and “Enjoy the Ride.”
