DEX! is a Rapper/Song-writer/Producer based in Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. Dex! has been writing songs and doing hiphop for over 5 years now. .. ...... .. ......MY MUSIC HISTORY...... .. .. .. Music, I guess, have been a part of who I am even before I knew it. Even though I do not have any music background, and no member of my family do music, my musical talent and accomplishments are noteworthy. .... As a child, I loved listening to music playing on the little radio in my room. Then, I began to memorize the songs on radio, and would sing along the next time radio plays them. I became so wrapped up in the songs the radio played that I started to write my own songs. Eventually, I wrote my first song at the age of 9. The song wasn't the best, but for a 9 year old, the concept was excellent. .... At age 13, I would memorized all the songs on radio and would sing them for everyone in school. Though I excelled greatly in class, I was the best when it came to songs. At 14 years of age, I was ready to go out of control music-wise. I had my head filled with almost all the songs on radio, from all the 2pac's songs, to the entire Notorious B.I.G's ..Life after death.. tracks, amongst countless others. A year later, I was everyone's favourite -after winning a couple of awards in stage performances, everyone in my school would look for me to just rap for them. That year, at age 15, I wrote another song, a much better song. .... In the same year, at just 15 years 5 months, I was winning numerous awards for my music talent. Awards which included: ..Best Stage Performance.. for performing Notorious B.I.G's .."Sky's the limit".., ..Best Rap Group.. for performing Naughty by Nature's .."Mourn u till I join u".., and ..Best Rapper of all time... My passion for music was at a very high level that year that I barely watch TV, but stuck to my little radio. .... In 2001, I picked up song-writing again. I wrote from experiences of all I had gone through, I wrote about my self, my life. And every week, I would write, at least, one new song, sometimes, I would write two songs. As I wrote, I seeked record deal, but it never came. Years passed, but I never relent. Just a few months ago, a friend of mine from a record company in Virginia beach, VA introduced me to myspace, and so far, it has helped me reach out to a good number of influential people in the music industry, and have helped me establish my now rapidly growing fan-base, presenting me a new horizon to expand my options to present my music to the world. .. ...... .. ......MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS...... .. .. .. I am a part of the ..AIA (Association of Independent Artistes).., a non-profit generating organization based primarily in California. AIA is designed to serve as a networking platform for artistes all over the world ..Click here to learn more about the AIA... I was appointed to review artists that are to be featured (or showcased) on the association's webpage, or to be considered for their concert series and other purposes. Artistes that I have reviewed for the AIA includes ..Babs Bunny.. (MTV's making the band), ..Deffrey P.. (MTV's making the band) amongst many others. .... I was also featured on the AIA's webpage. Not only was I the first non-US based artiste to feature on the AIA's page, I passed all records ever set in the featured artists' history. I enjoyed a play-count of over 1000 in less that 2 weeks. A mark no other artiste have ever come close to reaching. .... As a kid with little means, I have thought myself to be a professional writer, a producer, and a studio engineer. I play a few musical instruments too. These includes the keyboard, flute, and recorder. I am able to write and read music note. As a producer, I have made beats not just for myself, but for others too. I have been able to work with ..Steinberg Cubase SX.., ..Fruity loops 4.. and ..FL 6... I have been able to mix songs with ..Acid music studio 6.. and ..Sound forge 8... All these are self thought, for I never went to any music school nor have any professional teach me to use them. .. ...... .. ......THE NAME...... .. .. .. ..DEX!.. is a name which when broken down, is ..D EX !... ..Ex.. is the same as ..X.., which means ..Unknown... In effect, the name means ..The Unknown... I got the name because I have always been a low profiler. The exclamation mark indicates me being full of surprises. .. ...... .. ......MY KIND OF MUSIC...... .. .. ..I write basically hiphop music, clean-cut hiphop songs. I do have the ability to write a little R&B too. I do not write gangstar raps, neither do i curse in my music. I don't write about killing people, nor any other form of violence. I must add that I am a very flexible rapper, I write in different syles and forms, and on different tempo. .... Hello fans, friends, lovers, well wishers, and haters, .... Today makes it 365 days since I signed up on myspace music. I must say it's a step that have changed my life in so many ways, both for the good and otherwise. .... It all started last year when a very good friend of mine and a record label personality, Vanessa Kay Woods, advised me to signup on myspace music as a way to establish for myself a huge and strong fan base. Then, I did. .... The journey have been long and very worthwhile. During my 365 days on here, I have been able to meet more artistes from all around the world. From all genre of music, and more influential people in the music business. And, as well, established for myself a fan base that is every growing stronger by the day. .... During this 365 days, moreover, I have met with the founders of the AIA. After which I was featured on the AIA-Los Angeles page. Where I got well over 1000 air-play in just 14days, a record that have not been beaten ever since, even though I was the first hip-hop artiste and first non-us resident to be featured on the AIA-Los Angeles page. .... During this 365 days, I was able to hook up with ..Indepencemusic.net.. where my songs (..Fronting.. and ..Let me know (remix)..) stood on the number 1 and 2 spot for well over 4 weeks, and I was 1 hip-hop artiste for 1 week.. after which I stood on &035;2 for 2 weeks. Till date (after 5 months), my song (fronting), still stand on the top 10 hip-hop chart on Indepencemusic.net. .... During this 365 days, I was chosen to review songs from artistes from the TV show ..MTV® Making The Band ..With P.Diddy..... Artistes including ..Deffery P.. and ..Babs Bunny... .... Dearest Fans and friends, .... This is ..DEX!... Yes, the story is true. Last weds'day at about 8:30pm, as I was parking my car in the house after going out to get somethingt to eat, I got followed in by a gang of 3 armed men. They had me open the door for them and took money and belongings. .... Belongings stolen includes ..2 notebook computers.. (which include the one I use for my beat-making, mixing, and all music-related works), ..2 cell phones.., .. wrist watch.., ..and few bulks... .... The point I want to bring out here is that, even though I thank God so very much that neither myself nor my elder brother that was home when it happened was shot, my notebook book that I use for my studio is gone!! .... Remember I said I was going into the studio very soon? Well, that will definitely be suspended till further notice. And the new set of beats that I said I was putting on my page, that is suspended for now too. This truly sadden me, but I must count my blessings and still be grateful that I am alive and breathing. .... Fans, this is not the end of Dex!...far from it. It is my custom to always make a "backup CD" every once in a while. So, about 7weeks ago, I copied every information on my PC onto a CD-R for storage... that means all the beats, songs, and datas I had before 7 weeks ago, I still have them. Even though I might have to start mixing the songs all over again, and tweaking the beats all over again, ..they are not lost!.. .... So, all my business partners and persons recording with me, buying/leasing my beats, or requesting my songs, I still have access to my songs.
