"Dexter Romweber was and is a huge influence on my music. I owned all of his records as a teenager, and was thrilled at the fact that we were able to play together recently on tour. His attitude towards music is remarkable. And his songwriting, along with his love of classic American music from the south, be it rockabilly, country or R&B, is one of the best kept secrets of the rock n roll underground."- Jack White (White Stripes)
"Whats that lunatic up to these days?"- Mike Mills (R.E.M.)
"Dexter Romweber is the real thing, thers's absolutley nothing phony about him." - Daddy O Grande (Los Straitjackets)
"Nobody plays rock ..n' roll with as much raw and naked passion as Chapel
Hill, NC's Dexter Romweber ... the godfather of this generation's roots-rock
guitar/drum renaissance." - Baltimore City Paper
"That's no greasy middle-aged man, that's Dexter Romweber, a greasy younger cat from Chapel Hill, North Carolina whose hillbilly guitar and soulful
pipes recapture the primitive off-the-cuff brilliance of early rockabilly
(as in Jerry Lee Lewis, not the Stray Cats). While other fans of the old
stuff simply try to replicate the past, Flat Duo Jets ... somehow become the
real thing, displaying nary a hint of nostalgia." - Trouser Press
“Long before such combustible duos as the White Stripes and Black Keys
entered the lo-fi sweepstakes, teenage phenom Dexter Romweber was
churning-out primitive, stripped-down guitar 'n' drums (-only) raunch with
Chapel Hill, NC's Flat Duo Jets.” – Jeff Jarema - Creem Magazine
"Dexter Romweber is god. Dexter Romweber bestrides this world like a
colossus. Dexter Romweber is the Voodoo Child." - James Mann - Ink 19
Dex Romweber is nothing less than an icon of the American music underground. The former frontman for the world famous psycho-surf-rockabilly-garage-punk combo Flat Duo Jets released his first of nine albums in 1990 to rave reviews worldwide. He starred alongside R.E.M. and The B-52s in the 1987 cult classic film “Athens, GA Inside Out”. His first national tour in 1990 was as opening act for The Cramps. He was showcased on MTV's The Cutting Edge and 120 Minutes, starred in the Flat Duo Jets videos "Wild Wild Lover" and "Radioactive Man", made a stunning performance on Late Night with David Letterman, and has shared the stage with dozens of other rock luminaries including Iggy Pop and the White Stripes.
The Dex Romweber Duo also features Dex’s celebrated sibling Sara Romweber (Mitch Easter, Lets Active, Snatches of Pink) on drums. Together they have been performing electrifying concerts all over the US and Europe, touring with Cat Power, Southern Culture On The Skids, Legendary Shack Shakers, Reverend Horton Heat, Neko Case and the White Stripes.
Dex is the subject of a new documentary movie, “Two-Headed Cow,” which chronicles his legendary career. The movie includes testimonials by Jack White, Neko Case, Cat Power and Exene Cervenka amongst others, all of whom cite Dex as a major personal influence.
The Dex Romweber Duo's new CD "Ruins of Berlin" will be in stores February 10, 2009 on Bloodshot Records. The CD features guest appearences by Neko Case, Cat Power, Exene Cervenka and Rick Miller of Southern Culture on the Skids.
Great Great Show Last Night!! It is good to see that real music still lives. Thank you for all the years of real good music!! Sarah on the drums was amazing! The pairing is perfect and natural. We are thankful we got the "duo" experience to the max. See ya at the Exit-In next week, i think?
Damn Dexter! You're everywhere lately! I saw that new Jack White/Jimmy Page/The Edge documentary and you're up there. I'm listening to my newly acquired Simon Chardiet (surf guitar badass for the uninformed) cd and you're there. Don't work too hard there bud!
Sara and Dexter rawked our world here in Valdosta, GA last night!!! Was great to hear the Silvertone in action. Thanks again for visiting our small town.
Thanks so much for bringing your great music to a town in dire need of it (Valdosta, GA). It was a blast to meet you, and come back soon (remember: cheap alcohol!)!
