    Douglas Clark's Interests
GeneralEverything under the sun
MusicI am a Friend of the Chantry Singers in Bath and attend most of their concerts. I am also a Friend of the Bath International Music Festival and a Patron of the Bath Mozartfest. And the Chantry Singers run a Bach Festival every five years.

In the 70s Bath had one of the best Folk Clubs in the country with a marvellous group of singers but time moves on.

My real love has always been the singer/songwriters and I follow them till I feel they are going off. I am having doubts about Bob Dylan nowadays but have bought his albums for over forty years. Gretchen Peters is a new interest but there are so many.

Storage space for CDs, DVDs and books is so cramped that I buy very little music nowadays. Just those I follow like Dick Gaughan, Kathryn Tickell, Bruce Springsteen , Nanci Griffith etc.

MoviesMy star DVD set is the extended Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I also have The Leopard, Sense and Sensibility, Much Ado About Nothing, The Last Waltz, Masked and Anonymous, and Alexander: The Director's Cut. Being emotional I bought Before Sunrise/Before Sunset.

I have the Met Meistersinger and the Zurich Meistersinger, being in love with the opera. I also have Peter Hall's Figaro.

I have an equal number of music DVDs ranging from the Tallis Scholars to the Dixie Chicks.

TelevisionI watch the BBC Breakfast programme every morning but otherwise I am very selective, nainly listening to radio. I dont watch soaps or quiz-shows.

And every morning I scan around 60 newsgroups on the Internet.

Then I listen to Radio 2 and in the afternoon and evening Radio 3. But every lunchtime I am in the pub (various pubs cos I have many friends).

BooksMostly Non-Fiction in the Science and History areas. I read on average two books a week.

I also read around half a dozen magazines a week: Scientific, Political, Literary. I have stopped subscribing to Poetry magazines.

I am a Penfriend of Bath Literature Festival.

HeroesWilliam Butler Yeats, Friedrich Hölderlin, Arthur Rimbaud, etc

About me:
I wrote poetry for nearly forty years but now it has left me. I mostly published my own books with my Benjamin Press, but I also have books from Salzburg University Press and Arrowhead Press.

The final book from my Benjamin Press is Love Poems which is published 1 May 2008.

I am an Anglo-Scot born to Scottish parents in Darlington, County Durham. My degree is in Mathematics from Glasgow University and I worked for twenty years in Computing and Statistics at Bath University before being made redundant in 1993. Since then I have only done voluntary work.

My poetry is all available on the Web as is the magazine 'Lynx:Poetry from Bath' I ran for three years. The URL is http://www.dgdclynx.plus.com

I have designed a pamphlet Love Poems for my 65th birthday but my popular hit has been the pamphlet Cat Poems. Love Poems has been developed as a book.

For my sixtieth birthday I designed a final pamphlet ..Alive' which was published together with the current selection of my poems as the book Finality in 2005. Anny Ballardini, curator of Poets' Corner at Fieralingue, made an alternative selection of my poetry.

I am a member of the Plusnet User Group, my ISP.

My cat is Marty.

My self-created Wikipedia entry is here.

we sing
our heart-dreams
loudly into moonlit skies,
wishing upon flickers of light,
skipping our smooth hope-pebbles
along the wide ways of promise.

ripple, they do,
these echoed promises,
in thousands of shimmering circles
resonating our life’s expectancy

as we cast silken spun web-nets
trying to capture the elusive
understanding;

- – what it means
to be loved.
