Metta is a Pali word meaning loving-kindness. Metta chanting is the radiation of loving-kindness towards all beings: May they all be happy and peaceful. Imee Ooi chants the Pali beautifully. Metta chanting is soothing, uplifting, joyful and a great healing for the world - pervading it with waves of love. Truly, may all beings be happy. May they live always in peace and harmony.
"Beautiful" by Izabella
I love this woman! I think she's fabulous.
Sarah Brightman "Nessun Dorma" - This piece is not written for a soprano voice and yet she sings it impeccably with perfect intonation
Sarah Brightman - Lascia Ch'io Pianga
It's interesting, the "opera community" really disses Sarah Brightman; they say she only got where she is now by having been married to Andrew Lloyd Webber. I think this is a serious case of sour grapes - No one who looks like this and sings like this would not reach the height she has.

When I was about 13, I fell in love with live rock music. There was a local venue for kids every Friday night and the first song I remember hearing live was a cover of "Purple Haze" by Jimi Hendrix. So began my love of live rock music (as far as sex, drugs and rock 'n roll were concerned, I didn't get into the sex and drugs 'till much later). Here is Jimi Hendrix playing "Purple Haze":
This is a really interesting utube I found at the blog site:

This album, "Arena" by Todd Rundgren is great! I think it may be some of the best since the early 70's.
This song is special to me.. In about 1990, Jack and I got a puppy but couldn't decide what to name her. That night after he returned from band practice, he told me that the band had worked up "Little Wing" and we decided that would be a good name for our puppy. We called her Little Wing, The Wing, Winger, Wing thing. She was God's own little dog, completely simple and completely lovable. I had to have her euthanized in 2003 and it broke my heart.

I love looking at beautiful people. It's purely an aesthetic thing. I'm totally hetero, but I like looking at pictures of beautiful women as well as beautiful men. Here are my favorites:
Jack
Rob Pattinson
Nikki Sixx - Bassist for Motley Crue (hate them) and Sixx:A.M. (like them)
Rob Pattinson
Rudolph Nureyev
Mick Jagger
Sarah Brightman
Kat Von D
Deb Cherok (She was once married to my stepbrother)
I'm trying to grow spiritually and am having a hard time getting out of my own way. I know that I have to practice some type of meditation. My "drunken monkey" is in overdrive almost all the time. I do have a lot of chaos in my life at the present time, but that's just a convenient excuse for not practicing.
My very favorite thing in the world is singing A Cappella Renaissance Latin masses. I studied music for two years in college many, many years ago. I was a voice major and I know from listening to recordings of myself singing recorded by my grandfather when I was a little girl (he was a techno geek way back then) that I have very good intonation. My problem is that when I have to sing solo, I get very tense and everyone who knows about singing knows that tense vocal cords produce a very bad sound. So I was not able to continue studying music.
I did try to learn to play the cello. Unfortunately my life went to hell because of circumstances beyond my control in 2002. My cello also went away because of those circumstances. And I was just beginnning to get callouses when this happened. Which is a real bummer; I was playing pretty well because I hear well. Had a little trouble with hand coordination, but I'm sure I'd have gotten past that eventually. Oh well, c'est la vie, c'est la mort.
I love the Twilight series. I had refused to see the movie or read the book because I hate vampire movies. But so many of my friends urged me to at least read the books.. Hated the first one (because of my prejudice against vampire movies in addition to the fact that I thought the book was written for adolescents). I got the soundtrack, which I really love. I read the second book anyway and about half way through, I fell in love with the characters. By the time I had gotten to the fourth book, I was totally hooked. The series is really more of a beautiful love story than most vampire movies are. The main female character is Bella who is very shy but is very strong. In the end, she sort of saves everybody. It is beautifully written and well worth reading. I can't wait 'till the fourth movie, based on the fourth book "Breaking Dawn" (my very favorite in the series) is released. Apparently, Rob Pattinson is on board, but Summit productions has not signed on yet.

My husband of fifteen years, Jack Hurst, died May 8, 2004. There were many horrible circumstances for the two years before he died, but I'm not going into those details. For the first 13 years of our marriage, he was the best man I'd ever known. He was talented, funny, bright and charming and had an extensive knowledge of many things. He was the love of my life. He was my lover, my best friend and my mentor and I'll always love him.
This is a really funny story. Within this slide show is a photo of Jack playing bass for Chuck Berry at a local music festival. Everybody was all excited about it and lots of Jack's fellow musicians were there for the performance. Unfortunately, Chuckie didn't take it very seriously. Not only did he not use an electronic tuner, he stood on stage and tuned for maybe two minutes and it was BAAAAAD. Not only could Jack and the local drummer and keyboardist not know what key he was playing in, they couldn't even tell what song was being played. Jack was mortified; said he was going to have to move because he couldn't face any of his peers. I told him that it would be ok, everybody would forget how bad it was and we would appreciate the pictures later.
..
I love art and music (classical - especially early music and baroque, ambient, late 60s and early 70s rock (The Rolling Stones, The Who and Yes are my favorate bands ever), Bluegrass (Alison Krauss is incredible), lively philosophical discussions, coffee, dogs - especially speckled puppies, listening to friends' music jams, flowers, baby birds, fires on cold nights, good books, fresh herbs, beauty in any form.
I dislike closed mindedness, violence in any form, especially people who kill animals for sport and of course those who would hurt children or animals, Rush Limbaugh and all the the yahoos on Fox network, people and institutes who would deny me control of my body and my life, waste of resources trying to control victimless crime, people and institutes who would try to impose their belief systems on me.
I'm a vegan. I refuse to participate in anything that causes pain to any living creatures. Chickens for eggs, and cows for milk and milk products do not live good lives. Free range is not as nice as it sounds, either, those chickens are so close together that they die and walk all over each other. So I choose not to eat any dairy products.
I love to laugh and joke. I've been told that I'm slightly fey and "daft as a cricket".
Nikki Sixx, bassist for the rock group Motley Crue (I hate Motley Crue but love Sixx:A.M.), wrote a book about his unbelievely horrid drug addiction and subsequent recovery. I was interested in the book because I'd lost someone I loved very much to drugs. Nikki had always kept some sort of journal, even during the lowest points in his life. When he came across his notes and diaries a few years ago, he decided to write sort of an autobiography using the journals as a basis and called it "The Heroin Diaries". He said that he hoped that his disclosure could possibly help others struggling with addiction. He decided to write a sound track for the book with one song for each chapter and along with James Michael, lead vocals, and DJ Ashba, guitar, wrote and performed music and lyrics for the project. They didn't consider themselves a music group and didn't even have a name when one of the songs, "Life is Beautiful", proved to be a hit on radio. At that point, they named themselves "Sixx:A.M.".
John Entwistle bass solo - notice the way he can tune while playing and not miss a beat
Ya gotta remember that even in 2001 these are old guys. I think they still sound great. And I'm pretty sure that John Entwistle died not too long after these recordings were made so it's cool that they exist.
